Oh, the action around here!

Linda, so glad to hear you are going to get him some help. Here is a link to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. There might be some helpful information there. Please let us know how things go. http://www.aacap.org/cs/root/fac...

I just wanted to add - Linda, these might not have been the answers you expected, or you might have just thought it was a discipline issue, but something in your son's life has triggered these reactions, and if you don't take responsibility for hi...

Preparing for helping your daughter is a good idea. I wouldn't, however, show her picture on here - or give her name. This is a very public forum. It would not be safe for her.

The denial is textbook, Joyce. She needs help, so go back to the shelter you worked for, and see what they can do. I feel for you. I have a daughter and I can't even imagine going through something like this with her. Take care and let me know wha...

Joyce - have you tried going to a domestic violence shelter and asking them for advice? That might be my first step. They would have access to community agencies that specialize in this area. Your daughter is going to need someone who is trained t...

Ruth, employers can't ask about your religion, family, ethnicity, etc. I will look up the actual law for you. When it comes to what you put on the computer, though, it's open to anybody.

Stick to your guns! My daughter will not be "dating" in the true sense of the word until she graduates from high school. She is 15 and has a boyfriend, but they get to see each other on my terms, period. Both of them understand this. They might no...

I agree with you, but it's Hollywood. Nothing is ever portrayed properly or according to reality there. I highly doubt too many women even consider themselves "cougars" let alone behave like this character. It's there for entertainment and laughs....

Cooking

I have never been a real fan of the kitchen. When I was growing up, my mother forced me to stand in the kitchen and learn cooking techniques. I pretty much daydreamed during this process. When I ventured out into my first marriage, I gradually taught myself, through trial and error, the basics of cooking. I even made my own spaghetti sauce.

After my two children were born, I became a stay-at-home mom, and had my days to think about and plan my meals for the week. I collected cookbooks and tried… Continue

Experience Necessary

It doesn't seem to matter that I just spent the last 6 years of my life getting two degrees. I was just informed that I didn't have the experience to meet the job qualifications. Even though the work described was well within my capabilities. Oh well....... Just keep plugging away at this.

Teenagers and Holidays

Today, Memorial Day, was supposed to be family time. My fiance was here and I wanted it to be nice. Right before lunch, my daughter's friend called and invited her to a MudHens game (toledo baseball team). My daughter appeared to have no knowledge of my plans for the day. She begged and begged, but I stood my ground. I ended up getting angry and it nearly ruined the rest of the day. Before we sat down to lunch, I apologized to my daughter for overreacting, so lunch ended up being nice after all.… Continue

Age

How come it seems like I am one of the few who has made her age public? Are we not proud of being who we are? What does a number have to do with anything in our lives? I, for one, have worked very hard to get to this age, and I am extremely proud of it - and don't apologize either. I know you all are proud of yourselves, so why hide a part of who you are? You all look great so show it!

Job Hunting

What a bear this is. I have several sites that I check daily. It is amazing how one can go through hundreds of jobs and not find a single one to apply to. I just applied to a position with HHS, but haven't heard anything back yet - not unusual for government. I want to find a job that I am happy with, not just a job because I need a job. Part of the reason I went to college was so I wouldn't have to work in retail anymore, so I want a job that is fulfilling in every way.

Hi Joanna. Did you ever go over to the HR at the hospital to see if they had any openings? Just wondering how it turned out.

Hey Joanna-

That's weird. Yes, I could get to your page...I look forward to checking out the article!

Did you get some kind of error message when you tried to access my page?

Hope you're having a great weekend!

You have nothing to lose by getting dressed in a business like outfit and taking your resume right over the HR and see if you can talk to someone in HR who can give you information on open positions. If there are none then just ask to keep your resume on file. Get a business card of the person you talk to or the person you should talk to so that you have a contact person and periodically you could check with them about openings.

Does the local hospital have a website? Do you have a name to ask for at the HR? If they have a website you could see what they have posted. That doesn't mean that they don't have other jobs but it would give you an idea. Going to the HR with your resume couldn't hurt. Then you know that your resume is in someone's hands. Sometimes the website have a place for you to leave your email address and they update you when new positions become available.

Do you have your resume on Monster, CareerBuilder, etc. And are you on LinkedIn?

Hi Joanna. I haven't been as active on here as I was. Things got a little busier and there never seems to be enough time in the day to get everything I want or need done.

Hope you had a great weekend! I had a busy one but still had some fun.

I'm currently filling in at a weight loss clinic. It's not a bad place, but there is so much emphasis on "good foods" and "bad foods". There is not a lot of emphasis on teaching people how to make wise food choices and to manage their portions. Thanks for your post as you just helped me to identify why I have a less than "wow" response to the place.
