A major part of President Barack Obama’s educational plan is “The charter movement;” which began in 1991 with the idea that Charters would not have bureaucratic entanglements of Public schools, that they would resurrect the educational system with...

Outdoor Mamas is a place for moms who love all things about the outdoors. We live green by being in the green-- by being outside and taking our kids out there. We have dirt under our fingernails and well worn hiking boots.
And so do our kids.

Back to school for us and I like to wow the school aides by sending gorp in my kid's lunch. What are some of your favorite things to put in?

Hey Karrie...I am just coming back to life myself after having an AWFUL upper respiratory thing..it was all I could do to work...and then go nap...then work...then go nap...so I haven't been around. Still can't smell anything and am coughing something ridiculous...but at least I can visit around here again! And really...I hardly get sick!
Thanks for sharing about your doggie...I will have to go check out your blog about it...and I can't wait to read your new blog...I haven't been able to check it out yet!
Cookie (my kitty) has bounced back...he is still terminal but I am hoping that he has some years left! I don't remember where I left you guys...when the vet called us in to talk to us...based on just saying "we need to talk to you in the examining room" I thought for sure they were going to put him down and I talked to the kids and then bawled the whole way there!
When we got to the vet they basically sent him home to die...with an IV for us to give him fluids, a syringe and special food, and an antibiotic. After four or five days of us doing all this to him...and him just lying around like a floppy cat..he started to move around a bit and actually began to eat on his own. When I called the vet to see what to feed him now that he was eating on his own I had to explain about four or five times that he was actually eating on his own...not being forcefed..they were so convinced he was not going to make it that they couldn't understand was was eating on his own!
So now he is being a wonderfully loving pest...an indoor cat now (which he hates!) who is eating, loving, and doing everything fine. I got some essiac drops for him that I put in his food and I hope that will help....he may have weeks, months, or I hope years...but for now he is lively and almost back to his old self!
Hi Karrie - Just checked out your new blog - great title - I love it. We spend our summer at our rustic cottage on an island w/ no hydro and no phones which means no cars and no tvs - the kids couldn't be happier about it. You are right on target about dirt. There is a great Margaret Atwood quote about dirt which I'll look for.
Cheers,
Roz

Hi! You piqued my interest when you said you lived near Amish Country - I'm in West Salem, so I have a lot of Amish neighbors! I almost cried a little when I saw another Ohio mom mention "Amish" in her introduction on the Ohio Moms group. So as you can guess, we're pretty rural and if you know where West Salem is you know I'm not kidding!
Hi~ thanks for the welcome. We had a teaser of amazing weather this weekend but looks like cold wet weather later this week....just in time for Spring Break!
Karrie, you certainly are a writer! And you have GOT to come see my big red lip pics (both here and lots more at myspace) and read my blog about big red lips at www.myspace.com/annduncan !!!
