My 8 y.o. son gave himself a "haircut" with paper scissors last night after taking a shower. His hair now looks like a moth-eaten rug. We had no idea the scissors were in the kids bathroom. I'd love to hear stories from other moms regarding what o...

My colleague, Dr. W. Steele is a recent Powerball winner of $189 million. He wants to continue to practice medicine. Do you think the public will grant him the privacy to do so, or will notoriety and his new celebrity interfere? http://bit.ly/1Xcr...

This is a good reminder Dr. Burke-Galloway. My mother is great with this sort of follow up because she is on a pension. However, I almost never question anything and end up paying money unneccessaril-I'm sure. I have a question, do you know of a p...

National Adoption Awareness Month: A Personal Tale of Adoption

As an adoptive parent, November is a month of Thanksgiving. Not just because of the traditional holiday, but because of the blessing of adoption.

My life was a series of punctuated delays: college, grad school, med school and then residency. I finally got married at age 37 and then immediately attempted to start a family. However, fibroid tumors wreaked havoc on my uterus and the surgeries to get rid them made things worse. The moment of truth came at age 42. The callousness of the infertility… Continue

In Memory of Paulie

Yesterday was my birthday, but I wasn’t in the mood to celebrate. The deeper I get into the fifth decade of my life, the more reflective I become.

My cousin, Pearl (“Paulie”) Ford Colon left us on August 8th and to say that I’m devastated is an understatement. She was not only my cousin, but one of my dearest friends.

Paulie and I were considered the “good” daughters in our extended family. The daughters who never gave their parents grief; that played by the rules even when others didn’t; who… Continue

The Soundtrack of Ignorance

Disrupted town hall meetings. Congressmen lynched in effigy. Haters in full bloom. The reason for the discourse? Healthcare reform. If special interest groups are that desperate to disrupt legitimate town hall meetings through premeditative protests and Rent-A Mobs then I say please, call Security.

We have been down this road before. The Brooks Brother Thugs descended on Florida eight years ago and turned our election system into a banana republic. Most of the dissenters were rewarded with cush… Continue

Channeling Eleanor Roosevelt

The American people are not descendants of the infamous Chicken Little so please stop telling us that the sky is falling.

The reckless tales spun by those who want “more of the same” regarding healthcare reform make me want to reach for an emesis basin and regurgitate my lunch. There IS no agenda to withhold care from our precious elderly or send them off to die. All dastardly lies.

Everyone who enters a hospital for an admission (regardless of race, gender or age) is asked whether they’ve sig… Continue

Hi Linda,

Sorry it's taken me a bit to get back to you. Things have been crazy. We just did a book club on our site today http://svmomblog.typepad.com/new_jersey_moms_blog/ Unfortunately, it may be a bit too soon to do your book since you may notice some similarity. But definitely contact the site! Also, a new edition would be helpful, we seem to do books out the same year, even though I know your book came out last year.

My Lupus is doing well with Orencia but I have a lot of secondary issues that have kept me down such as Fibromyalgia and Costochondritis. I am applying for disability. I'd love to make contact with your cousin.

Be well,

Emily
