Just got my blog posted. Relates to my recent experience getting my 3 year old enrolled in preschool and creating his IEP. What a process! The best part is that our district strongly believes kids of different abilities should be paired together t...

Thanks so much for passing the word on. I feel this is such a good cause and one that often gets overlooked. Everyone knows the Shriners as the men that drive little cars. But very few get to see how many people are helped. Amazing. I would do any...

I teared up remembering my days as a patient. I was told as a teenager that I would die before 40 without the orthopaedic surgery that cost over 40k. My mom and I cried because we could not afford it so the Shriners flew down to Puerto Rico and to...

I am so glad you mentioned this Random Acts of Kindness challenge. The Mom It Forward group did something similar this past December and we heard such amazing stories from it—people being excited by service!

Keep us apprised of other such amazing activities on or offline. :)

HI Margaret! Hmm that is a good question, one I am still really working on. My son has adhd and bipolar, he is what they call rapid changer and can go from happy and laughing to very irritable or snappy for no reason. My daughter started doing the same thing, but not near as bad. I thought because shes hitting puberty that was the reason but had her checked out anyways. I had PPMD and thought she did too. She would be happy and fine one day, the next day or two she would be depressed, withdrawn. When asked, she really had no idea why she felt that way, there was nothing to make her that way, she could not control her moods literally. The drs do not think she has bipolar because she doesnt fit the other areas of bipolar, however they put her on medication to stabilize her moods. I hope this helps you out and I know its broad, but I would love to help you out more! Just ask any question you want.

Oh, Margaret, you have no idea what your words bring up for me. I worked a LOOONG time (in Thailand) to bring a girl here for surgery for a rare hip problem. And it finally did happen! I escorted her here and placed her in a home where they treated her as their own and taught her more English and cared for her after surgery by a world class team of doctors in the Seattle area.

3 of my 5 were ADHD. And we've all survived! Here's some fun pics of them www.annduncan.com

A BLESSED week to you!

Offering Effective Inclusion Programs, Making A Difference in Early Childhood

http://www.mytreeboys.com/2009/03/offering-effective-inclusion-programs.html

When we started on the process of getting Owen enrolled in pre-school, my biggest concern was placement in a "mainstream" classroom versus a special needs classroom. Remember this is a whole new learning curve for us. I was just starting to get the hang of getting my oldest off to kindergarten and navigating the whole PTA, classroom mommy, field trip guide and conferences. Now I was dealing with a much more complex sys… Continue

http://www.amcdocumentary.org/2009/02/challenge-40-days-40-random-acts-of.html

So I am challenging everyone of my readers. During the next 40 days, I want you to do one random act of kindess per day. You can't promote it, this is your private celebration. At the end of the 40 days, I want you to come back and share your experience. Did you feel you learned something? Was it hard? Was it easy? Did you gain a new perspective?

I want to pay back all the wonderful people that have helped us. From… Continue
