Celiac Disease – No Symptoms or Many Symptoms

Most people with Celiac Disease do not know they have it. A simple blood test can change your life or the life of a family member, friend, or coworker. It changed mine when I was diagnosed two years ago, after five years of symptoms. Some people with Celiac Disease have no symptoms. Others have mild symptoms and may simply accept them as normal. Celiac symptoms vary greatly and may include any of 300 different symptoms. For me, symptoms were joint pain (knees), headaches, insomnia, numbness and… Continue

LOVED your Twitter article! I passed it along to our Twin Cities ROCK group and our Northland Celiac Support Group. It had a great balance of educating people on Twitter and how celiacs can really benefit from the info that's out there in our GF Twitter Community. Good job!

Hello ! Thanks for contacting me.My partner has a diagnosis of celiac disease and i am a self-diagnosed celiac - i certainly avoid a lot of unpleasant symptoms by eating gluten-free and thus i believe i am gluten intolerant.I started eating gluten-free about 23 yrs ago.Recently i tried eating wheat again - after a week i had to go back to gluten-free because of symptoms.Personally , i think the gluten-free diet is more wholesome and tastier anyway but i do miss those yummy cream-cakes !

My main purpose for joining the group is to educate myself about the disease. I work for a new company that will be manufacturing a line of meal replacement bars, muffins and cookies that are free from the Big 8 allergens, including gluten.

I'm gluten and dairy intolerant. I'm very fortunate to have a husband that fixes delicious gluten and dairy free dinners for us. He doesn't need to eat gluten free but does at home because it's just as good!

Thanks for the replies. I took her to Lab Corp today because of our insurance (the pediatrician wanted to send us to Quest though). Lab Corp said 48 hours until we'll have the results back so I figure we should find out sometime early next week.

I've heard about Celiac Disease on and off since my daughter was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis (JA). She also has food allergies and even though I've read Celiac Disease is not a food allergy, I see it mentioned in places where food allergies are mentioned.

I've always had a very strong feeling that her arthritis is due to something she's eating even though doctors have told me it's not possible. We did try a gluten-free and dairy-free diet shortly after her diagnosis for 2-3 months, but didn't see any changes so we decided to listen to the doctors who said she needed to eat those things to grow properly.

It would be nice to find a cause!

Hi Maryland Celiac (sorry, I can't find your name anywhere if it's listed). Thank you for the welcome message and comments about my blog.

My daughter is going to be tested this week for Celiac Disease. She's 4 1/2 and has had a bunch of strange autoimmune issues since 1 1/2. I'm on Celiac Disease now as a possibility, though it may be a long-shot. The majority of the specialists she sees tell us there is no known cause or cure, but I'm not going to stop trying to find one until I've exhausted all the possibilities. Thanks for putting this group together.
