I am the mother of three wonderful children(Patrick 10, Alex 7, Matthew 4) and married to a terrific guy named Patrick. Our life is awesome and crazy at the same time. Can you relate?

Do you feel like you have to do it all?

Do you feel like you have to do it all? Or, do you feel like no one can quiet do it better than you?

These are two simple but powerful questions that we all face in motherhood. I was speaking with some girlfriends the other day about Thanksgiving preparations as well as the weekend entertaining to follow. All of the mothers shared how overwhelmed they felt this year to make the holiday season the best possible. I asked everyone the questions I cited above:

Do you feel like you have to do it al… Continue

What taking care of yourself really means?

While it might sound fairly obvious to suggest to mothers the importance of practicing great self-care, I have found that most of us moms just don’t get it. I speak with moms and women’s groups all the time and, consistently, when I ask mothers, “How do you practice self-care?” I am met with silence or the typical day spa, mani and pedi response. Self-care isn’t really a consistent thought in motherhood. It is not until a mother becomes stressed out at her spouse, frustrated with her children or… Continue

Could you vacation without your family?

This morning, I was speaking at a moms group about self-care. During the course of the conversation I mentioned my upcoming Cruise to Cozumel for mothers during the month of April 2010. Immediately, some moms began to share how essential vacations are for mothers while other mothers explained that they could never leave their family to enjoy themselves. I think that this is an important discussion.

Personally, I have always seen a direct benefit to my marriage, parenting and in my own life when… Continue

Do you share your fears with your children?

This week, my husband and I took my children to Six Flags theme park in Maryland. Well of course the children love theme parks, filled with fun shows, wild rides and the thrill of seeing mom and dad scream their heads off.

Here is my confession. I have been the family bag holder at amusement parks for years. Through tons of amusement parks around the country including multiple Disney world visits, Six Flags, Great Adventure and Hersey parks I have always preferred the milder side of the parks r… Continue

Do you resist change?

Last week, we decided to paint our homes' exterior. Not a big deal? Right? Well, it was a big deal for me because I wanted to change my home from the white shutters and white doors to something a little different. Each day, I lamented over paint colors and swatches and finally I called a good friend, who is an architect, and begged her to pick the colors for me. She refused. She said, "You are so together Mia and I can't believe that picking paint colors is really making you come undone."

This… Continue
