Has mommy guilt got a hold of U?

So true Amelia, if moms would just understand it is human, not just them that feel guilty, maybe just maybe they will sleep better. More sleep helps us to be the best we can be. Great Discussion ht...

The Pilgrims and Mini Quiche Slide Show

Governor William Bradford wrote an account of the Pilgrims’ experiences. However his book, Of Plimoth Plantation, was lost until the 1880s. Stories about the pilgrims were handed down from generation to generation becoming a myth.

When the work of William Bradford was found it recalled the “very roote & rise of the same.” -The history of the Pilgrims.

The story starts with the Church of England which was filled with ritual, and where the bishops of the church told members what to believe. By the early 1600s thousand of men and women in England, Scotland and Ireland had come to dislike so much ceremony and they wanted to study the Bible and decide for themselves what to believe. Many said they wanted to “purify the church.” Their nicknames became the “Puritans.” keep reading at: http://www.examiner.com/x-2016-Parenting--Education-Examiner~y2009m11d14-The-Pilgrims

Veterans Day 101: History for Children

Veterans Day History for Children

Veterans Day takes place on November 11. It is the day Americans honor people who have served in the U.S. military. Veterans Day is also a time we remember and honor the people who have died for America. Many people share a moment of silence, at 11:00A.M., to remember the fallen soldiers. We pay our respect to all the people who have fought or are still fighting for the freedom that Americans have today.

In the early 1900s America was at peace, however, there… Continue

Authentic Thanksgiving Writing

Thanksgiving is the perfect time for authentic writing for our children.
Authentic writing activities help with writing achievement. When children are involved with authentic writing for real life purposes they are writing for people outside of school.
Thanksgiving gives your child the authentic writing opportunity to write recipes, shopping lists, greeting cards, writing stories and poems.

Have your child be your family’s official Thanksgiving writer. Give your child a new journal and colored… Continue

San Ramon is a hop skip and a jump from here! Not really but its closer than say Tahoe:) I grew up in Walnut Creek and our teams compeated with San Ramon teams. Small world.
As an educator what is your take on one subject per day learning? Do you feel a child would benefit more from single subject? More in depth etc? I'm thinking of changing up my sons curriculum. We seem to lightly touch on a subject and then have to jump to a new one. I would like to get more in depth, especially when he is interested. Monday Math, Tues History Wed Science etc.

We spend a lot of time on the computer, but my children have watched me read books since they were born. The idea that your children do as you do, works with reading also. With the exception of one child my children are avid readers, one I even call a book hoarder!
I agree though that books are slowly disappearing from our childrens lives. Luckily the home school program I have my son in relies heavily on the text books and extracurricular reading. I will read your article this afternoon.
Take care and keep reading!
