- Still married to my high school sweetheart, I am a homeschooling mother of nine, by day, and a weekly newspaper columnist, speaker and freelance writer by night (actually, really early morning before anyone is up—but it’s still dark out, so that counts.)
With a growing population of grandchildren (14 the last time I counted) I care deeply about the social, political and parenting issues that are shaping the family in our post-modern culture.
Although we only have two children left to raise, our home has now taken on new life as our daughter and her family (one husband and five children) moved into our old farm house and filled our empty rooms. The plan, to share living expenses, become debt free, and build a new "Grandma house" next door.

What makes a good mother?
Is a good mother the one who stays home with her children? Is it one willing to work long hours so her children will have a chance to go to college? Is she the soccer mom who diligently sees to it that her children are successful in sports and school activities?
Is the role of motherhood so narrowly defined that we can boil it down to what she does or does not do?

It's Monday.....again! Just wanted to wish you the best week ever. This week the kids have 2 days off from school and the baby has a rash and is cranky and.......the beat goes on.
