And Now For A Little Music

While you may have been visiting Role Mommy for a while, or if you're a newcomer, there's a secret I'd like to share with you. I sing. Actually, my dream in life was to get the chance to perform on Broadway but like most big dreams, after a certain point, you stuff them back into your drawer, pursue a totally different career and never go after the brass ring. Well, fast forward to the launch of See Mom Run and yours truly is back on track to pursuing her passion. I am having the time of my life visiting cities across the country, and in addition to reading excerpts from the new book, I've decided to share one of the songs from the show I am currently developing for the stage.

While the show may not make it to Broadway, it will definitely come close and so far, every time I sing "Somewhere That's Clean," I've been receiving rave reviews. So take a look at this latest video from the road (at Calista Spa in Westchester PA) and please disregard the shaky hand cam. Next time, we'll put the camera on a tripod so that we don't give our viewers a headache while they're watching the performance.

Thanksgiving 101

Oh, the holidays. We love them and simultaneously dread them, right? What keeps me in focus, especially during Thanksgiving is a feeling of gratefulness. Grateful for all that I have--friends, family, lovely daughters, my husband (ok, so sometimes that love is tested) and a roof over our head.

And my recipes get me through chaos in the kitchen. I love sophisticated flavors, but the time to labor hours over a stove has been severely cramped. Here's one recipe that's quick, easy and even fun to make with the kids. Happy thanksgiving!

No-Cook Cranberry Salsa
makes about one quart

The real secret here: agave nectar. Unlike honey which is more pungent tasting, agave nectar adds a creamy sweetness to temper the tart nature of cranberries. This dish only gets better with time, so plan on making it at least two days in advance.

1 onion, peeled and quartered
1 bag cranberries, picked over and rinsed
freshly squeezed juice of 1 orange
freshly squeezed juice of 1 lime
1/4 cup agave nectar
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

Add the onions and cranberries to the workbowl of the food processor. Pulse until coarsely chopped. Combine with remaining ingredients in a large bowl and stir until well mixed. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Best served two days later, so this requires advance planning but the pay-off is a delicious no-cook condiment.

I'll also be making my sweet potato, ricotta and leek souffle next week.

See Mom Run: My Most Harried Moment

We just returned from Charlotte and got the chance to meet two of our fabulous contributors to See Mom Run! First meet Sherry Martschinck - she's a retired senator, turned clown, tap dancing teacher and piano player in a lounge bar. She gives new meaning to the word Passion! Come and watch her share a few of her most harried moments and she even offers advice to busy moms looking to do what they love.

Our latest Harried Mom moment comes from one of our favorite Role Mommies who happens to be a contributor to See Mom Run. Issa is better known as @SingleMamaNYC on Twitter and her blog is Your Single Parenting. She's also the mom of the most adorable little boy I have ever seen! Take a look at Issa's most harried moment and see if you can relate!

Wolves in Sheep's Clothing

If you're a popular mom blogger, parenting expert or an author, you may one day find yourself in a position where reporters and even TV producers might be interested in featuring you in a segment or news story. However, before you agree to share your story, it's important to be aware of the interview requests you should stay away from at all costs. You see, not every interview request is reason for you to get your name out there. Some publicists will argue that any publicity is good publicity bu… Continue

The Ins & Outs of Blogger Events

Recently, I've had the chance to speak with a lot of bloggers on a topic that has been weighing on their minds...events. If you've been blogging for a while and your site is receiving lots of traffic, you have probably been on the receiving end of several invitations to attend events. These events range from conventions to events in your area to online teleseminars. When all you're trying to do is blog, how can you make sense of the events that are right for you?

Well, as someone who hosts even… Continue

The Do's & Don'ts of Self Promotion

I apologize for being a bit late to the party with my latest article. I've actually been vacationing with my family in Orlando - the first real vacation I've taken since starting my business in September 2007. In fact, I've even stepped away from my laptop for several hours each day and I have to admit, it does feel a bit liberating. While I had never planned on heading to Florida this time of year, I have the folks at Disney to thank since they invited me to the red carpet premiere of the Ameri… Continue

The Back Door Plan

Hello Twittermoms - hope you're all having a great week despite the constant barrage of negative news about our crumbling economy and the rising unemployment rate. If you're like me, it's probably starting to feel a bit daunting if you're trying to build a business or raise your platform when all we keep hearing around us are stories of doom and gloom. So how can you break through the bad news and get your story heard without being ignored by reporters who are too preoccupied with the bleak stat… Continue

Making Your Mark as a Mom Blogger, Author or Entrepreneur

I know it's a little late in the day, but since I've had a marathon week of events, I've had time to think about the ways you can drive traffic and awareness to your book or brand by following some simple steps. Here are some of my thoughts on ways to make your mark in an incredibly saturated field.

1. FOCUS ON YOUR AREA OF EXPERTISE - If you're the "Coupon Queen" or a Nutrition or Fitness Guru or maybe you're a fashionista (hello Audrey at… Continue

Love the Oprah piece! It's a good reminder that success does not come overnight. There is no magic bullet; rather, it requires building momentum through lots of hard work and strategic networking. Looking forward to reading your next post.
