This just sounds like I'm brag-a-docious but my 13 year old loves to read and write. He wants to follow in my footsteps and be an author (A honor he wants to follow me) He's been working on a couple of books for two years. Futuristic and historica...

I Give Up...HELP! How do you send a Twitter @ Post???

I've got to be missing something really silly, but I've struggled with this for days. I hope someone can take a sec and explain it to me. Of course, I feel really dumb- old ladies like me have a rep for being techno-illiterate, but I like to think I'm at least semi-literate!! So I'll be looking forward to an explanatory comment or two. Thanks in advance, everyone!

Funny Memories I Hope You'll Enjoy

I was looking through my girls' baby books the other day, and recalling some of the best moments of motherhood so far (you do that when they head off to college, LOL). Here are some zingers that I had all but forgotten:

--> Youngest was in middle school. Older sis was pondering aloud why we ladies sweat and stuff when we see a cute boy, thinking that was quite counterproductive. Youngest didn't look up from her book, but said, "Oh, that's just your fight-or-flight reflex" (!) Now the world k… Continue

Back to the Grind

We've actually had a FIVE day weekend here, what with Thursday and Friday being snow days, then Monday's holiday. It's really tough to want to go back to work, but the thought of that thin pay check is more and more motivating. I'll be working at the mental health facility for about 4 hours today, then there are four more students planning to come for tutoring this afternoon, making a pretty full day.

I actually love my job with the MH people-I do literacy work with developmentally disabled adu… Continue

This is Invigorating! (and Introducing Myself)

All of this hanging around with younger moms, I mean. Yeah, I'll admit it...I've snuck in here as a fifty-year-old with nearly grown children. It's nice to hear about babies and toddlers again-I miss that stage of life. Y'all have been dredging up some incredibly fun memories for me these past two days.

By way of introduction, I'm Sandy Fleming, mom of Corinne (21, newly graduated from college and just engaged), Gwen (19, studying chemical engineering) and Nikki (16, junior in high school and a… Continue

Thanks Sandy, I appreciate your help. Perhaps there is some way we can work together to get the message out re this group. I will certainly blog about it and tell the parents i am involved with as soon as my site gets up. Great job, keep it up.

A thought - is there any way to post a general chatty article or invitation to all mom's?

Phew, it has taken me ages to get here! hope that you get this.
First, yes my twitter link isn't working as soon as it is I will let you know- i need to get the correct URL.
Second - yep, sounds like we are in the same business. I believe that parents have an enormous influence on children's learning but that they do not know the best way to help them learn (how can they no one is telling them!). After working with many parents 1:1 and advising them of the best way to support their child's learning I am now trying to 'get the word out' using internet. In my work I developed a 5 step process that helped me understand how children learn, why they have problems and what parents can do to help. It is this process that I am getting out to parents in a way they can use.

I believe that children need a set of learning skills before they can learn and that when one or more of these skills are weak or missing they have learning problems. I am new to all this business stuff but am enjoying learning.

Keep in touch. It may be a while before i master the technology but i will get there in the end. As soon as I have my new blogsite up (mid march) I will let you know.

Cheers from sunny (!) Canada
