Interesting! Sometimes it can take longer than a few months to see improvements on a gluten free diet. Gluten is hidden in soo many foods and cross contamination is frequent, so she could have still been eating some gluten in her diet during the trial without your realizing it. This happens even to people with Celiac after reading all the labels, books, and lists. See comments added yesterday in Mom Cooks GF group. So glad you know Celiac isn't an allergy - so many people think it is! Kids can grow great without gluten and dairy! What allergies does she have?
I forgot to mention that the blood test for Celiac is not accurate if a person is already on a gluten free diet. Don't make any diet changes until all testing is done. Keep advocating for your daughter until you find an answer!
How did you find out about Celiac Disease? I am so glad you are having your daughter tested. So many doctors do not test for it, which is why 97% of Celiacs are undiagnosed. I assume they are doing the comprehensive panel of blood tests for Celiac and then will followup with endoscopy if positive. According to our lab, Quest, the blood test takes four days to get the results. Good luck and please keep me posted! If it is Celiac, your daughter will thrive on a gluten free diet.
Hi Susan! Thanks for joining the Celiac Disease Awareness group. I like your blog. I follow the Thrify Mama, but look forward to reading yours too. Always hard to save money on gluten free things, but still lots of good deals for me at CVS.
