That is such a cute blog name! I'll definitely follow your blog. :) You might want to put up the gadget that allows people to easily follow you (if you don't know that gadget, you can see mine on the right hand side of my blog: http://homesteadnot...

I think it can be, and it certainly seems to draw readers who never otherwise comment out of the woodworks. ;) For me, I don't think it's drawn more followers/hits, but I do them as a way to reward my loyal followers. I think the wider appeal th...

We didn't used to eat a whole lot at those types of restaurants anyway, but after reading Fast Food Nation, and realizing how poorly treated most cattle (and food industry workers) are, we cut down even more. We try to hit local places that have a...

Just wondering if anyone else read the article on blogging (Blogs Falling in an Empty Forest) in New York Times Online today: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/07/fashion/07blogs.html?emc=eta1 It was very interesting. :)

We've been homeschooling pretty much since day 1. It has its ups and downs, but over all, it's a great fit for my kids and they love it. We give them the option of going to school whenever they want to, but so far, it looks like we'll be homeschoo...

Thanks so much! I've not heard of that one before; sounds like a well-rounded book. Will check it out!

I'd recommend "The Encyclopedia of Country Living" by Carla Emery. Seems to me it covers just about everything. I did look at mine just now and it covers butchering well, it seems. I refer to this book quite frequently, depending on the season. ;)

Fun on the road

Been having a good time on our road trip so far...lots of terrific birding and enjoying the canyon areas of the National Parks system!

I know it's not much of a blog entry, but I thought I'd mention here where I've been...I update a bit more on Twitter. :)

Happy Spring, everyone!

Actually, I've surpassed the 50K words goal; am at about 56K now and the novel still isn't finished.

So excited about my shout-out on The Soap Queen blog!

Some day, life will return to semi-normal and I'll be back here again, but in the meantime, I just want to mention how thrilled I am with the shout-out I received:

It's NaNoWriMo time!

National Novel Writing Month is upon us again. This is an event created just for the eternally masochistic, perpetually optimistic, or the chronically insane. Yes, I have been known to be one or all of those things at various times of my life. And… Continue

What is there possibly left to say?

I have a blog, I Twitter, I do Facebook, I do Homeschoolslikeus (a FB type place but for homeschoolers only)...I feel like I've already spilled all my guts - and maybe a few other vital organs - out to the world adequately through all those venues, and really have not a whole lot left to say here.

For someone with an incredibly boring life, I sure post a lot about me. Photos, I find, help up the interest level of my blatherings. So, here's a really cute photo of when we were pet-sitting our fri… Continue

I am thinking about Latin for that very purpose, SAT's, but also it makes sense for spelling and vocabulary. Such as, Oviparous. I dropped my daughter off for her pre-k class and they had a table set up with books and displays and above it was the the word oviparous. There was an ostrich egg, robin's egg, etc.
So what did my mommy brain think but of ovaries and in our ovaries are eggs. therefore oviparous has to do with eggs. Yes, I didn't know what oviparous meant nor had I seen the word before (momstimers and all.) But, because I knew that the Latin root would help me figure it out has been invaluable.

I always have questions about homeschooling but rarely do I know what to ask. I met a woman who homeschooled and had hired a Latin teacher. Latin, in my opinion, should be taught in schools but it looks like the new language will be Mandarin.
