In the last ONE day alone, my four-year-old precious (as I say that through clenched teeth) son Lukas (but let's called him LUKAN as in CONAN--get it?) has destroyed, in no particular order: my whisk (cuz I DO cook me some mean scrambled eggs); my cool as you please big ole silver hoop earrings that I searched long and hard for (and finally found at Urban Outfitters--cheap!)--and I loved them because they were light as air--and now they are misshapen forks; and my beloved big, round kitchen cloc…

My youngest Sam absolutely loves the colour pink its his favourite colour. If we walk in a shop and he sees anything pink he's straight there. Whilst shopping a few weeks ago, I turned round to see that he had put on a pink Dora dressing gown and he was most upset when I told him that I was not buying it.
Let's face it though the girls clothes always do look so much more invi…

Remember when your mom used to get that look in her eye like a fortune teller with a chip on her shoulder and say, “One of these days, you’re going to have a kid JUST LIKE YOU!”? I believed she could make it happen because my mom...

Have you ever been stopped by a cop for a reason that made absolutely no sense? Everyone has a story. I have learned by trial and error that my attitude often determines the outcome of the situation. When my sons were becoming older teens who wanted to drive, my fear of an attitude with a police officer was overwhelming. National headlines have given credence to the pain of mothers who have lost sons as a result of routine traffic stops that lead to death, especially for young black men.
Whethe…

Hello!
To all you mom's and a big shout-out to mom's of twins, I just posted a fun little post on my blog about a 'Rite of Passage' that happened to our little family a few months ago. I just know some of you will relate so whether you're a write or not I hope you will go check it out and hopefully get a good laugh out of it.
We've all had potty-training moments haven't we? ;0) This is a story I think many of you will appreciate. I would love it if you would comment and retweet this story on t…

While the summer bounty of fruits and vegetables are abundant right now and it appears that there is more than we could simply enjoy, our country continues to have a serious hunger problem. There are still over 36 million Americans that don't know what their next meal will look like, where it will come from or when it will come. As a family, this is an area we have decided to get behind and help. We've bought and donated food to our local Oregon Food Bank monthly, we will help those on the stree…

I am a VERY nosy, email checking, Facebook following kind of mom. That doesn’t mean my kids don’t get in trouble, they do, but I feel like if I stay a step ahead of them, I can help them, help themselves, stay out of trouble.
Let’s be clear teenagers and tweens find trouble. It’s their job. They are experimenting, pushing the limits and finding out what is right and wrong by trial and error. It is MY job to constantly point them in the right direction and that is tricky in this crazy world…

When my family and I left home yesterday (Easter Sunday) to travel a short distant to share in food and drink for the holiday, we appeared as a "normal" family. But I could sense that something was amiss, especially when I appeared back in the rear view mirror at my daughter "The Teenager."
Upon our arrival we greeted our friends and made introductions for those who had never ventured into our circle of friends. The kids disappeared as they found those better matched to their age.
The next tim…

And cruise town with my friends, text message at the movies, go out to lunch, meet up with more friends, hang out watching movies, spend the afternoon on my facebook page and take a bus into the city to meet up with more friends!
I want to be my teenage son and eat double cheese burgers, shakes, fries and pizza and still weigh 120 pounds.
I want to sleep till noon on weekends and take 20 minute showers doing god knows what to my body.
I want to be my teenage son and roll my eyes at someone wh…

Yesterday after four hours of sleep I woke up ready to kill and eat anybody who crossed my path. Unfortunately for me it had snowed nine inches the night before and Wade was chomping at the bit to plunge into the untracked powder. His plan was to ski in the morning and than hook up with the boys and I at the mountain at lunchtime. He ignored that my hair was larger than usual and that my fangs were extracted. I wanted to scream to him, “Don’t leave me alone with the boys! Can’t you see that it i…

Men's rights. Sounds a bit strange to the ear, doesn't it? But to people like radio show host
Glenn Sacks, the need for pro-male campaigns is all too real. After all, shirts like designer David & Goliath's "
Boys Are Stupid. Throw Rocks at Them" are popular but are also, to some, unfair and downright…

Before I had kids, I never ate organic foods. I admit I balked at the prices. Besides, I had been raised on “conventional” fruits, vegetables, milk, and meat myself. Ha! Maybe that explains my questionable sanity. But that's another story.
Anyway, the second my boys came into the world, there was just no way I could stomach the idea of feeding them food that contained pesticides, hormones, or antibiotics.
If you’re not sold on the idea of organic yourself or you don’t have access to a huge sel…

This post is an effort to capture a bit of the unstaged, unprogrammed, unplanned-ness of our days.
So, why is it that my changing the sheets on our bed is an automatic invitation for a jumping contest and pillow fight?…

File this under, “Don’t you wish you were me?” or maybe “It is a DAMN good thing he’s cute!” or maybe, just maybe, “I bet this doesn’t happen at the St. Regis.”
I had just finished doing a little exercise, during which the kiddos were mesmerized by Dora left me peacefully alone.
Suddenly, Delaney comes running into the room, doing her bet imitation of a pint sized drama queen and yells, “The Boogie man is coming!” My quick-thinking mommy brain tells me that the ‘boogie man’ is likely blond, al…

Every year, I have stuffed my son’s Christmas stocking with hygienic supplies that he usually would not buy for himself, or are a bit more on the luxury scale to make it a bit more special. Mainly, these are items that aren’t too pricey, but he would never buy for himself, or don’t make the day to day budget. Here is an example of what he can expect from Mama-clause thise year (and hopefully he doesn’t read this blog, but if he does, I am sure he won’t be disappointed LOL!)…
