We can all give in little ways that make a huge difference. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want their children to be kind and generous people who grow up with a desire to make contributions. There is no question that the best way to teach kids is through role modeling. At Mabel’s Labels we wanted our work lives to reflect that value, so over a year ago we started a Community Relations Committee. We recently had a look at what we have accomplished and it left us with a decent case of the warm fu…

Have you ever been stopped by a cop for a reason that made absolutely no sense? Everyone has a story. I have learned by trial and error that my attitude often determines the outcome of the situation. When my sons were becoming older teens who wanted to drive, my fear of an attitude with a police officer was overwhelming. National headlines have given credence to the pain of mothers who have lost sons as a result of routine traffic stops that lead to death, especially for young black men.
Whethe…

New Research:
A new study finds that young children have significantly lower levels of a key enzyme that protects against the toxic effects of certain pesticides. The youngsters' enzyme levels do not catch up to an adult's until after age seven – far longer than previously thought. In addition, a person's genes dictate how effective the enzyme is at breaking down the pesticides. This is one reason why some people…

I've been researching the plastics industry and the impact on our environment and human health and just came across this video. It is dealing with the great plastic garbage patch out in the Pacific Ocean and towards the end goes into detail about the dangers of plastic baby bottles.

How often do people say 'I keep myself to myself'? or ' I've lived here x amount of years and still don't know my neighbours'?
Of course, in this day and age you have to be careful. Neighbours might be funny, suspicious, or their children confrontational, so it's difficult to know quite what to do to begin building a sense of community isn't it?
And yet, we also know that if we want to see the reintroduction of such values as stability, trust, care and strength in our country, it can't just…

Mom I just returned from a few days in my Southern California home town . We've had this trip planned for about five months since it was centered around a surprise birthday party for my mom's 60th in July. The weekend before we left, my dad had a heart attack after a routine surgery but thankfully was in the right place and right hands and they took excellent care of him. Those of us who planned the party talked everyday, trying to determine whether we should cancel the birthday celebration. We…

If you read yesterday’s post, you recognized that

Being a blogger, I come across some incredible websites. I can spend endless hours (yikes!) getting lost in cyberspace. I start off with an agenda, which then leads me to additional browsing as a result of link-clicking on articles of interest. It always guides me to places I’ve…

From: http://www.amomentrepreneur.com/profiles/blogs/deboxed-living-conversations
Welcome to my business website. I am thrilled to present to you “Deboxed Living Conversations.” The term deboxed living can mean a number of things and I invite you to come to a definition that suits you. For me, deboxed living means doing what is right for oneself and ones’ children, despite the controversy it might bring about because of differing conventional, religious or other views that people in your life h…

We are all aware, the web is a great tool for us to use. We often wonder how life was manageable back in the old days without the web! Not to mention, using the internet is easy— and THAT is if you have all of your limbs, have excellent vision, have perfect hearing, or have any other ability that is often taken for granted.
For years, the desires, wants, needs of individuals with various disabilities have been overlooked by web-designers, marketers, and others in the business world. People who…

According to USDA farm census data released in February 2009, in the last five years US consumers have overwhelmingly opted for locally grown fruit and veggies. Farmers selling produce directly to consumers via roadside stands, farmers' markets and pre-paid produce baskets netted $1.2 billion in 2007, up from the 2002 direct sales figure of $812 million. This whopping 49% increase was overshadowed only by the dramatic growth in the sale of organic foods, which tripled from $393 million in 2002 t…

Michelle Obama’s White House garden is inspiring. The First Lady’s agricultural endeavor both introduces and reminds people to get closer to the land; to conserve Earth’s precious resources; and the importance of growing their own healthy food. For some people this is feasible; for others, both time and natural space interfere with this green-thumb movement. There are many accessible sites to help start your own garden, whether it’s an herb garden in your window sill, planting a fruit tree, or p…

How are you letting people know about your blog articles?
Submitting your sites RSS Feed is great but, how many people are looking at it?
Posting your blog in a blog directory is great but, that is just a link to the home page of your blog with a mini description.
Fact –
You need back links,
You need targeted traffic,
You need great anchor text.
The easiest way to do that is to write a small description of your new blog post.
Include a direct link to the article.
Place this new descript…

Hello Twittermoms,
Today is the soft launch of Lipstick Wisdom, a concept I have been working on for over a year. Two years ago, I discovered that my son has learning issues. I wanted to learn all I could about his issues and figure out how I could help him. I searched all over the web for information and came away very frustrated. I found that searching the web for the information I sought was very disjointed, chaotic and mostly unsatisfying. I wanted to learn from experts but I also wanted to…
