Glenna Normyle MUGGY MONDAY

In NH it is a muddy muggy Monday afternoon after a lot of rain much of it falling from bands of rain we got from Hurricane Bill. We sure did need it here at Glenna's Garden. I touched the pomegranate bud and it fell off the bush. I only got one before so things are moving along pretty slowly with that plant. It has grown in height nicely though with one trim midsummer. I can see a cactus bloom in the works. I hope so I want to photograph it. The bamboo plant produced two new stems this summer. T… Continue

tracey lamphere Notes from a fabric fanatic

I am always on the prowl for interesting new fabric and Riley Blake Designs delivers. They carry an eclectic, not to be confused with eccentric, selection of sweet fabrics that have me practically drooling. My Mind’s Eye takes their well-known scrapbook papers designs and puts them to cotton. I can’t resist snowmen and after seeing the full line on… Continue

greenandhealthy 10 Easy Eco-Crafts for Kids

I love to craft and my kids love it even more, but I’m not particularly fond of the kits you can buy at the store. On top of being kind of pricey, they also have far too much packaging and leave far too little to the imagination. I prefer to use materials we have on hand like from our recycling or our backyard. It’s easier on the pocketbook and easier on the Earth. And, I love how it’s transformed my daughters’ definition of trash. Actually, my youngest one has become quite the collector and I… Continue

Shawnasie Shear Recycle Your Crayons - Here's How

As a mother of 4 kids with 3 of them old enough to use crayons, you can bet I have a TON of broken crayons. Over the past few months I have become more Earth-conscious and I am finding little things to do around the house that follow the guidlines "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". I want to help others do more Earth-conscious things as well. If you have some broken crayons around, here is a GREAT way to recycle/reuse them. Ingredients/Utensils: Mini muffin pan (regular size or different shape… Continue

Christina Beaded Bookmarks...bling for your books!

I just made a few beaded bookmarks. I love Shepard's Hooks. They are just so easy, you bead on a headpin or eye pin and attach and that's it. I love making ribbon bookmarks as well, but i love the ease of the hooks.

Gina Rau Activities to celebrate Earth Day (or month!)

While April 22 is Earth Day, there's so much fun to be had in celebrating concepts of reduce, reuse & recycle and all things green or eco-friendly that it's hard to contain it all to one day! Here are a few ideas that we're working on in our home:

Diane MacEachern An Earth-Friendly Easter

Rather than plastic grass, cheap baskets and gummy candy, you can enjoy an earth-friendly Easter that fits right in with the arrival of Spring. Here’s how: Make your own basket. Rather than buy one wrapped in cellophane and stuffed with stuff your kids will eventually throw away, create a basket that will last. Use baskets you may have received during the year and decorate them with ribbons or scarves. If you need to buy new, consider the beautiful hand made and fair-trade options at Pristine P… Continue

Mary Art to Go

If your family is anything like mine, then y'all view a restaurant table covered in paper as an opportunity to doodle, draw and play. It seems nothing is as entertaining to my kids (and husband and maybe me, too) as a blank sheet of paper and a couple of crayons. While not every restaurant we frequent has the foresight to prepare for our patronage, I have found that making art portable has been a great way to keep my kids occupied, while also encouraging creativity. Among my favorite finds was… Continue
