Well it’s “So far, So good” on the new recipes. I talked to my mom this morning and the rest of the family is finding healthier version of their Thanksgiving dishes, too. All aboard the healthy eating train. This year we should met the “weight requirements” and not take up 2 seats a piece.
My Old Turkey recipes was delicious, but consisted or slathering the turkey with a TON of butter. I probably dropped at least two sticks in the pan and then basted the poor thing t death. Tasty, but in retros…

I was speaking to Loraine, another mum of my vintage today, who has also raised 4 children (now young adults).
We spoke about how we would start our baby's off on very small amounts of a variety of foods at a young age and we didn't have near the amount of food allergies as there is today. Over the last 6 years there has been a 500% increase in food related allergies. What is going wrong?
There are many contributing thoughts and much research to back up why.
1. Holding off introducing foods f…

Research shows that the transition to college, with its inherent pressures and changes, can increase the likelihood of eating disorders in young adults. While college students are empowered with newfound independence, this freedom can also trigger unhealthy and dangerous behaviors.
In the past year, Eating Re…

With running a business, raising two active children, maintaining a healthy marriage, and training for a figure competition- I still have managed to have dinner on the table every night. It is all about preparation. Since my daughters are active in sports and most days of the week, we are rushing to one event or another, I prepare my meals ahead of time. I see so many families at the ball fields with their fast food sacks by their side. That is not what we need; we just need to learn how to plan…

Most people are interested in leading healthy lives. Many of these people don’t have a clue as to how to achieve this. Here are 5 quick tips to help you get healthy!
Read Labels/Reduce Serving Sizes
This first step is the ultimate eye opener. A serving is much smaller than you expect it to be and calories add up quickly. You will automatically change how you eat when you start reading labels.
Avoid Drinking your Calories
Smoothies were marketed as a way to drink a meal on the go. In theory,…

Today is Thursday, and my favorite kid-friendly restaurant today is
Stir Crazy. When kids arrive, they receive an adorable Chinese take-out container filled with goodies, like chopsticks, a creative activity book and crayons. I love the kids menu because it has healthier options and my kids loved the food, and we all know how picky my kids are!
Tuesdays and Thursdays are Kids Eat Free, so run out to your nearest Stir Crazy! To read my review, or for more information on Stir Crazy a…

We've had a summer full of berries and other wonderful fruit, but who wants more besides me? Enjoy your final sunny days outside and go berry picking, burning calories, saving money, and spending quality time with friends and family. Or try a farmer's market for some local, fresh and mouthwatering fruit.
Berries provide vitamin C, fiber, anti-inflammatory properties, and loads of antioxidants to help prevent illness and disease (try guava and plums too!). Think elderberries, cranberries, black…

Did you read the article in the New York times several months ago, “What’s Eating Our Kids? Fears About ‘Bad’ Foods”?
My first thought was, “Oh my gosh, am I creating an eating disorder in my children because I am feeding them – and teaching them about – healthy foods?” And then it hit me: “PLEEEEAAASE…give me a break, media. Don’t you get it? YOU are making us crazy!”
On the one hand, the media “feeds” us images upon images of the way girls and women (and boys and men) are “supposed to” look.…

Today, my baby turned 6 months old. It’s hard to believe, I feels like yesterday we brought her home from the hospital. Even though I have tried to savor every minute with Brooklyn as an infant, I can’t help but feel like I missed it all. Is 6 months when you stop saying you have an infant? More like a baby now, I suppose. Although she looks more and more grown up every day. Soon I will have two toddlers. Scary. For her 6 month birthday, I let her have some applesauce for breakfast. Just like ri…

Wyatt has to be on of the pickiest eaters on the planet. It is no wonder at close to 40 inches tall, he still struggles to stay around the 32 pound mark. When Wyatt first started eating “grown up foods” he would eat just about anything I would cook for dinner. Then that week ended and we’ve been struggling ever since.
Although we have made some breakthroughs recently (see the pork chop blog) it still is really hit-and-miss. Usually if he has skipped breakfast and refused lunch, he may eat a goo…

June was a month full of rain and judgements, and I'm not sure which I saw more of. From judgements about the way people look to judgements about whether a person is smart or strong enough to achieve their goals, judgement is harsh and hurtful.
I myself have experienced judgement on several occasions over the past month. It reminds me of how we judge celebrities and their bodies when they're wearing bathing suits on the beach. You RARELY hear someone say, "She looks great!" It's either, "She's…
