Last night I was wasting time until SNL came on (yeah Taylor Swift!!) and I just happened to turn on the news. I flipped back and forth between MSNBC, CNN and Fox News as I frequently do. The conservative opinion speakers on fox were vehemently expressing their unease and distaste of the nights events. Flipping to the left wing and liberal news was totally opposite. Their convictions aligned with the majority of house voters. Pretty interesting to watch. And even more interesting is going to wor…

Investigative journalist Nena Baker is the author of The Body Toxic: How the Hazardous Chemistry of Everyday Things Threatens Our Health and Well-being (North Point Press/Farrar, Straus and Giroux). I first met Nena when we both spoke at the Women, Health & Environment Conference sponsored by the Heinz Endowment in 2008. Since then, I've been a fan of her investigations into the impact that toxic chemicals have on our bodies as well as the planet. In the first of a two-part article, Nena exp…

Many of us probably don't get enough omega-3 in our diet and even worse, we consume way too much omega-6.
Click here to read an article about both and their impact on heart health, inflammation, brain development and more (provided by Susan Allport, Prevention).

Having been born within the industrial and technological era has definitively brought many positive things to our lives. Clean water, sewers, roads, access to Hospitals and so much more! But also, looking back into at least the 19th century, I must acknowledge they had a few things that I would rather have, perhaps, less pollution, less toxic chemicals filtering our waters and lands, and for sure, more pure and natural foods.
The industrialized world has helped us but has also made us somehow h…

I'm worried about H1N1, but I'm more worried that fear will cause us to stop our lives AND teach our kids to be afraid.

I just received some devastating news. My son informed me he is not going trick-or-treating this year! It was bad enough when my daughter stopped.
I’m having déjà vu. This reminds me of how I felt when my daughter was 2-1/2 years old and I learned that naptimes didn’t last forever. Ridiculously,…

Is Blue The New Black?
by Leslie Morgan Steiner
Dear Maureen Dowd:
Thank you so for your recent column, Blue is the New Black [1]. Thanks for enlightening me about how women today are SO unhappy because of all the choices heaped upon us since the feminist revolution began in 1972. I always knew my troubles were all Gloria Steinem’s fault.
Thanks for explaining that:
* Unlike today, before the 1970s, women in America felt greater well…

I am a huge believer in opening yourself up to new things in order to learn more for yourself, your family, friends and clients/coworkers, and when I had the opportunity to learn a little bit about a new and interesting topic, I went for it. I was skeptical about energy medicine going into the class, but I tried to have an open a mind in order to get as much out of the "Introduction to Energy Medicine" weekend as possible. Here are a few things I learned from Donna Eden and David Feinstein at th…

One of the best skin care tips I can suggest is drinking a ton of water. The recommended amount is 64 ounces per day. That is 1/2 gallon. A lot of water, but such great results for hydrated skin and a healthy body.
There is a lot of flavored water out there now. It's not something I recommend. It has chemicals, artificial sweetener and such. You really need a good filter and drink water where you know its' source. Bottled water can come from impure sources and filtered to look good, but do you…

I love helping women look and feel great. As a cosmetologist for 19 years, I have spent a lot of time working with women's hair and skin. I have done countless perms, colors, cuts, facials, make overs, etc.
I was one of those kids who knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. From the time I was 8, I can remember telling my Mom. "when I grow up, I want to be a hairdresser". Funny though, I never had a "hair" doll or did much with my own hair (I have unruly, curly, thick, coarse hair) I had no cl…

As long as I can remember, hair weaves have been around for decades. Some people wear hair weaves to create a different look for medical reasons and some people just love to wear weaves.
I have been wearing them since I was 16 years old. I love to change my look all the time, depending on my mood. Wearing a hair weave has it's benefits, but if it is not put in the hair properly it will be detectable. This is something that can't happen if you want it to be as…

The fall season is upon us which for many of us moms, also means the return of the flu season. And of course, everyone (well, almost everyone) is starting to be worried sick about their children potentially getting sick with the H1N1 flu virus (or swine flu). A couple of my mommy friends have asked me "I'm thinking of vaccinating my child against the swine flu? What do you think" I cringe when I hear this because I personally believe that this vaccine is potentially dangerous. But such health ma…
