Veterans Day History for Children
Veterans Day takes place on November 11. It is the day Americans honor people who have served in the U.S. military. We pay our respect to all the people who have fought or are still fighting for the freedom that Americans have today.
In the early 1900s America was at peace, however, there…

Yesterday's history,
tomorrow's a mystery.
But today is a gift, and that's why

Twitter Moms:
My partner in BurgYoung Publishing, Diana Burg, has just had her novel, Dalliance, published by Syracuse University Press.
Dalliance, a Novel by Diana Burg is set in the pre-civil war days of America between 1848 and 1860. America was rapidly expanding westward. These were the days when captains of industry had palatial residences, and enjoyed lives of elegance and luxury, attending and giving sumptuous parties and traveling extensively.
This novel will be of interest to anyone w…

The Orphan Boy, A Love Affair with Mining is a book about a man who pursued his dream of being a miner. An educated man, a graduate geologist, this man orchestrated the reopening of a mine, after World War II, that was first opened in the 1880s. He followed a dream pursued by few at that time and even fewer today.

All month long ESPN has airing stories on women athletes and women in the sports industry due to March being Women's History Month. In my opinion, its very interesting to see the sports reporter aspect of life due to most of these women were/are the first of their kind in a male dominated industry. On Friday ESPN will air a special on a few of their own reporters as well as women who talk sports across the country. The major news network is also doing other things to honor the women in the indus…

There are so many women that deserve recognition during Women’s History Month (as well as the rest of the year), but Jeanette Rankin’s place in that history is pivotal.
Jeanette Pickering Rankin was the first woman elected to the United States House of Representatives and the first female member of the Congress. She was known as the Lady of the House.
Rankin was a pacifist. She voted against both WWI and WWII, the only person to do the latter.…

When I decided I wanted to start writing about my passions, sports and video games, I knew that there are going to be people out there who obviously know more about the categories than I do. But something that troubles me is when I post a video game article on "video game sites", I get completely torn apart by all the males that seem to know everything there is to know about the industry. Insults about my gender quickly follow any post which always seem to include the line "go make me a sandwich…

How many of us watched as our 44th President went through the festivities of his inauguration with wife and two kids by his side? Well... I will be forever struck by the visions of those two little girls. So poised, so gracious, having to go through an overwhelming situation that would have had most of us on our knees begging to just be able to sit down and drink a soda in private. What about school? After all... fame or no fame... these two little girls are still the "New Kids" at school. EEEk!…

Charleston wakes up slowly, easing into the day like a true child of the south. The sun coming over the horizon is weak because of surrounding fog, people on their way to work don't seem to be in the same rush as in other places. The urgency to get somewhere is not apparent, Charleston will always be here.It has survived the war of northern aggression, the great war and WWII, Korean and Vietnam. Each time the wars have reached deep into the souls of its people and taken their men, their lives, b…

My son is a conservation worker at a local state natural area called Port Royal. And since I am an avid local historian and reenactor, I get to dress up as a 1790 resident of Port Royal and talk to lots of strangers this Thursday night! I thought you Twittermoms might enjoy seeing something about me and what I do.
Here's my script
Hello, you must be the new folks who came in to Port Royal last week. I am Susannah McFadden. You must not be able to sleep tonight, neither can I. Its a restless ni…
