Okay now that ,that is out of the way. I want to blog about "Dreams and what do they mean". Everyone has their methods on how to figure them out and all. I also do. I have been a person for years that people come to that I know of course and ask me what did it mean . Well I get really vivid dreams about things. I had one once that was about my mother. That one for some reason ,I couldn't remember for the life of me what it was about. I do know one thing from that is I woke up crying and calling…

Young mothers need a lifeline. That lifeline is often a local playgroup. Many moms go from working outside the home to staying at home with no preparation or training! These play groups help us bond with others in the same situation and they give us a reason to put on a clean shirt. The kids play on the floor while the moms usually stand around having a cup coffee. Some of us are hoping to learn the secret to being a perfect mom and some are just grateful for a safe haven to have adult conversat…

One of the saddest days I’ve experienced is the first day I left my son to go back to work. You never forget the guilt. You never forget the regret. Mostly, you never get over wanting to be home with him. I wish I started my stay at home business a long time ago, I could have avoided be separated from him.
Now th…

When I started the toyportfolio.com in 1989 with my mother, at our first editorial meeting she insisted we have a list of toys for kids with special needs. So we started researching what was out there--many catalogs (remember those?). We were so upset to find that the prices were so inflated...and for no good reason. Since our first issue, we have been committed to providing information about ordinary toys that can be used or easily adapted for kids with special needs. It's not hard--and it is s…

As all you mamas know, once one kid is down, it’s just a matter of time before they all start dropping like flies. I’ve got a lot of flies, so things can drag on for quite some time. In fact, with so many flies, the whole little germ fest tends to recycle and the first kid who brought it into the house is starting round two of something while the last kid is just heading into recovery mode. It’s like a twisted game of germ tag.
So what was wrong with them? We probably had a bit of swine flu lov…

I heard a song today that really grabbed my heart. "It won't be like this for long" by Darius Rucker. It reminded me that nothing lasts for long. We should embrace and enjoy the season of life we are in right now, and the season of life each of our children are in right now. In the song he sings about his baby girl crying, as babies do,and his wife reminding him "It won't be like this for long." The reality of life is our babies grow up. They grow quickly from one stage to another. Before you kn…

On Saturday, November 7, Food Network had a cooking with kids day. I saw Paula Deen and the Barefoot Contessa. Paula was pretty good, Ina Garten, on the other hand was, let’s go with ‘interesting’. Now, I do like Ina Garten, she’s a great cook. I love when she has her parties and her recipes are delicious; BUT, arugula on pizza for kids? And, spicy olive oi…

I’m always looking for recipes that would be feasible for the kids and I to cook together. I find tons of great recipes, but some of those I like are a bit complicated. To make the recipes two kids cooking friendly, I end up adapting various recipes to come up with something easy to cook with kids. But as I’m browsing the web for inspiration, I add many sites to my Google Reader list, so, during this season of thanks, I’m going to share some of them and offer them a great big ‘Thank You’ for ins…

Everybody knows that Thanksgiving dinner means turkey. Since I don’t have the kids on Thanksgiving day every year, and since I don’t want them to get all turkey-ed out, when we make our day after Thanksgiving meal, it usually includes turkey meatballs.…

Be careful how much you
tickle your kids when they are little. When they grow bigger they are relentless. Our older 3 boys (ages 12,9,and 5) gang up on me. I start laughing before they even touch me. I try to yell and scream for help. I shout "STOP!" and threaten punishment as I back away from crazed little animals on the attack. Ready to strike with all 30 of their long claws. It's hard to take my plea's for help seriously through my…

Divorce is hard enough on kids, but the holidays tend to make things even more painful.
The fact that other families are gathering to celebrate and spend time together only serves as a reminder that their family is no longer the same. That’s why this time of year,…

Caroline's Baby/Kids Gifts and Diaper Cakes is fantastic if you need a gift for a baby shower or a birthday party. There are four different gifts to choose from and many styles and colors of each. The first is a baby bunch bucket. This bucket has baby clothes arranged in it like a floral bouquet. It is clever and very pretty! The second is a baby bunch bouquet. It is the same i…

We can all give in little ways that make a huge difference. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want their children to be kind and generous people who grow up with a desire to make contributions. There is no question that the best way to teach kids is through role modeling. At Mabel’s Labels we wanted our work lives to reflect that value, so over a year ago we started a Community Relations Committee. We recently had a look at what we have accomplished and it left us with a decent case of the warm fu…

Welcome to our first Thanksgiving episode for 2009!
Because we like eating and hanging out together cooking, the Two Kids tribe truly enjoys Thanksgiving. It’s not just about the traditional delicious either, BUT, our Cream Cheese Pumpkin Pie is one traditional treat we never forget. Honestly, it’s mostly the crust; the gingersnap crumbs add just the…
