Amelia Frahm Breast Cancer: Ten Things a Survivor’s Teenage Daughter Needs to Know

Five years ago, while doing an interview for a newspaper in Raleigh, North Carolina, my daughter Tabitha, who was 14 at the time, told the reporter, she just always assumed she was destined to get Breast Cancer and, “never thought I wouldn’t get it.” Hearing her say it aloud-- I felt like I had been kicked in the heart. The first thing a Mother thinks about when diagnosed with Breast Cancer is how it will affect her children. The last thing she wants is her own daughter to be diagnosed with it,… Continue

Michelle Young Why keeping kids safe is an oxymoron...

I have been trying to write this post for almost three weeks. It is a horrible subject to post about. It is not about how to keep your teenager safe. Unless you lock them away in a padded room, teenagers with any exposure to the "real" world are at the mercy of themselves and others. At this very moment, my 17 1/2 year old son is at a friends house, a couple of miles from here. He rode his bike over there this evening, and curfew isn't for an hour. I won't go to bed until he is back home, I won'… Continue

Nickie Local economy and teens...

I have two teenage sons... one 19 and one 17 (and a step-son who is 14, but this doesn't pertain to him, yet). My 19 year old just graduated high school this past May and is working for the local City Government on a full-time summer job. He's making great money for just a summer job and has been getting great reviews and comments from his boss and co-workers. Yay! This job is due to end soon though- it's only a 10 week job and with the OT he's put in, his time will end sooner than the 10 weeks… Continue

Kathy Arnos When is Your Infant – Child - or Teen Teething?

Today when the phone rings it is usually a question about the environment, an eco-friendly product, or those seeking alternative treatments for mainstream chemical services. However, there are still those random teething calls/questions that always make me giggle and remind me of my roots in the field of natural health. Twenty-five years ago I never thought that some day I would be known in certain mommy circles as a teething expert, but as fate would have it and the fact that my daughter Danie… Continue

I want to be my teenage son and eat double cheese burgers, shakes, fries and pizza and still weigh 120 pounds. I want to sleep till noon on weekends and take 20 minute showers doing god knows what to my body. I want to be my teenage son and roll my eyes at someone wh… Continue

Kathy Arnos Hazing Amongst Our Youth

I just saw a segment on Good Morning America about hazing amongst our youth. What a horrifying act of rage and hate. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if our youth were inspired, honored and celebrated during their learning phase of life? What if instead of pouring alcohol down each others throats, and yelling ‘you’re worthless and disgusting’ while performing degrading disrespectful acts of violence, they filled one another with positive loving affirmations of their greatness, while massage each others… Continue

Sue Atkins Lunchbox Laughter

I was exploring my Twitter followers last night and I came upon this super website with wonderfully designed and fun free downloadable lunchbox notelets. It reminded me of when Molly used to pop little notes on my bed and I LOVED receiving them and I've still got lots of them in my special memory box. So why not bring a little smile to your child's lunchbox this week and make them think of you while easily building their self esteem and wonderfully special memories between you. I popped "I gl… Continue

Sue Atkins 20/20 Vision

I’ve just had my eyes tested at Spec savers this week and have just picked up some stylish new glasses and it made me think of Allison Mitchell’s great book “Time Management for Manic Mums” where she talks about The Eye of Time. The Eye of Time is a wonderful analogy and tool for pinpointing what you are choosing to focus your time on. She asks what gives you 20/20 vision and clarity and where your life is at the moment. She talks about “near focus” which is all the activities, jobs and routin… Continue
