I’m always looking for recipes that would be feasible for the kids and I to cook together. I find tons of great recipes, but some of those I like are a bit complicated. To make the recipes two kids cooking friendly, I end up adapting various recipes to come up with something easy to cook with kids. But as I’m browsing the web for inspiration, I add many sites to my Google Reader list, so, during this season of thanks, I’m going to share some of them and offer them a great big ‘Thank You’ for ins…

Everybody knows that Thanksgiving dinner means turkey. Since I don’t have the kids on Thanksgiving day every year, and since I don’t want them to get all turkey-ed out, when we make our day after Thanksgiving meal, it usually includes turkey meatballs.…

Welcome to our first Thanksgiving episode for 2009!
Because we like eating and hanging out together cooking, the Two Kids tribe truly enjoys Thanksgiving. It’s not just about the traditional delicious either, BUT, our Cream Cheese Pumpkin Pie is one traditional treat we never forget. Honestly, it’s mostly the crust; the gingersnap crumbs add just the…

Yay! It’s Halloween! We are so excited to go trick-or-treating (and thankful it’s not snowing here in good ‘ole Minnesota). Soph’s gonna be Hannah Montana, and Alex as Darth Vadar–And, Mom’s gonna be a Zombie Hippie (we’ll make sure to post photos).
Anyway, our Halloween finale closes out this season with some cute and tasty Peanut Butter Spider Cookies.
Watch our kids cooking show…

Even if money and time are tight, you can have a wonderfully rich and full Thanksgiving. All it takes is a little organization and some willingness to let go of the need to do everything.

I have a new post up at Mommy Lite:
"The Booty Trap"
My toilet seat is booby trapped.
There have been clues all along, but I just put two and two together.
Every time I sit down on the toilet my kids are alerted and suddenly I am bombarded with children banging on the door, barging in and shouting "Mommy, I need you." "Mom, where are you?" and "MOOOOOOOOM! Do you know what Ben did?" Seriously. It’s an ambush.
They could have been playing in their rooms, quiet and content for hours. They cou…

It’s a contest! Alex, Soph and I love a good competition and thinking up creative new recipes, so this one is going to be fun for us.
The contest I’m talking about is The 8th Annual Jif Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest. Another reason I’m excited about this contest is that, just like Two Kids Cooking, it encourages families to spend time together in the ki…

With running a business, raising two active children, maintaining a healthy marriage, and training for a figure competition- I still have managed to have dinner on the table every night. It is all about preparation. Since my daughters are active in sports and most days of the week, we are rushing to one event or another, I prepare my meals ahead of time. I see so many families at the ball fields with their fast food sacks by their side. That is not what we need; we just need to learn how to plan…

Young children are simply not conscious of time. Parents tell…

Because I love Halloween, as I’ve stated on several occasions already, I cannot stop myself from clicking from one adorable Halloween recipe idea to the other. Or, when I’m offline, all of those magazine covers jump at me from the racks.

As the school year is underway and our schedules are HEAPING with more than the year before – how do you make time for what is important? Determining what is important will be different for everyone, but I can almost guarantee that when we stop for a minute and truly think about what is import…

While it might sound fairly obvious to suggest to mothers the importance of practicing great self-care, I have found that most of us moms just don’t get it. I speak with moms and women’s groups all the time and, consistently, when I ask mothers, “How do you practice self-care?” I am met with silence or the typical day spa, mani and pedi response. Self-care isn’t really a consistent thought in motherhood. It is not until a mother becomes stressed out at her spouse, frustrated with her children or…

I know. This is such a timeless piece of advice, isn't it? Making sure we have some quality time can be difficult. We have so many activities to compete with and when parents have to work outside the home, it calls for some serious creativity. One thing that has helped me is to set more boundaries around my work, so that when I am home, I’m “really all there". I have to confess that there have been days when I am spending time with our daughter coloring, baking or even reading, and my mind is bu…

How much is your time worth? Not sure?
Ask any part-time employee and they will tell you: $9.50/hour (or whatever their wage is). Hourly workers know the value of their time.
Successful salespeople who work on commission know the value of their time. Some salaried workers, particularly the successful ones, know the value of their time.
But what about you?
It’s a different story for the online business owner! You probably work more than eight hours during the day (or night) and then think abou…

I wrote this after the last holidays! Do we need to get ready to readjust?
Back to ‘normality’ after the school holidays, time has evaporated once more, appointments and deadlines beckon, meals, uniforms, homework, housework, nappies, snacks and pickups fill the space. Four clamouring voices make me addled and the temptation is to fob the children off in favour of getting things done. However I have found, when I remember to do it, that the more focussed the attention I give the kids, the calme…

There is a moment in the day when I want to have "Mom Time": I want to check my e-mails, go to the gym, attend the garden, make a phone call, spa with friends or watch the news. This is Mom Time! So I explained to my kids that when they play with their toys or with their friends, I give give them the space to do so, and that me too sosometime, I need an hour or 2 daily for myself. Don't kid yourself, it does not work all the time, but it's a good concept, and my kids are starting to get it :-)
