In case you missed it, Publisher's Weekly came out with their annual Top 100 list this past week. Considered the most respected weekly book journal in the industry, writers and buyers look to PW to make or break careers, determine buying trends, and as is the case here, make recommendations to the media and general buying public. The timing of the list certainly isn't accidental, being that they put it out right before Thanksgiving, a.k.a. the beginning of holiday shopping season.

Am I really happy? Actually yes. Although it is only 6:45am so not too much has happened to ruin my day yet. Not to be pessimistic but man, life has been interesting to say the least. I saw a quote by Mother Teresa awhile back that said, "God only gives me what I can handle. I wish he didn't trust me so much." Isn't that the truth.
So this week my "stuff" to handle is getting caught up and staying caught up.

There are many interpretations of the word empowerment. I've listed
a simple definition below.
Empowerment: The act of giving power and authority to a person to perform his designated tasks and being enabled to do what is needed to accomplish a
given task, goal and mission.
Empowerment is a choice. You either choose to embrace empowerment
by learned life skill sets and other avenues or choose to sabotage any
level of success by continuing disempowering behaviors, neglecting
to learn and apply… Continue

My grandmother was a breast cancer survivor. She had a mastectomy at a time when I was too young to even understand
what that meant. I am now 38 and acutely aware of what it means as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My grandmother outlived her cancer, dying of natural causes, and I know many of you who are taking care of your elders or dear friends are praying for the same outcome.
Not too long ago we were introduced to a few remarkable women who created the TNBC foundation in honor of a… Continue

Believe it or not, I’ve added another hat to my life – Daisy Scout leader. My son has been in Cub Scouts for three years and loves it, so my daughter has been waiting patiently for her turn. I thought it would be much easier for me to be the leader than ask another mom to adapt everything for Sami. Luckily, I have a neighbor who will be my co-leader if something happens (gee, like a break) and I can’t be there.
The good little student that I am, I’ve been reading about the Girl Scouts for the p… Continue

Is Blue The New Black?
by Leslie Morgan Steiner
Dear Maureen Dowd:
Thank you so for your recent column, Blue is the New Black [1]. Thanks for enlightening me about how women today are SO unhappy because of all the choices heaped upon us since the feminist revolution began in 1972. I always knew my troubles were all Gloria Steinem’s fault.
Thanks for explaining that:
* Unlike today, before the 1970s, women in America felt greater well… Continue

"All the good men are taken!"
How often have we heard a woman say that, or maybe even felt that way ourselves?
Is that true? A recent study says that women must believe that's so, because they're more attracted to attached men than unattached men. It proves that they're able to commit; we like that!
Women have been cast in the role of home wrecker throughout history — she's the temptress, the vixe… Continue

Who are you? Do your clients, customers recognize who you are? Would prospects recognize who you are and become immediately attracted to you? Or would they
turn away because there's nothing for them to identify with.

more about personal branding.

Are you happy? Author Marcus Buckingham is doing a series on Huffington Post called "What's Happening to Women's Happiness? His most recent book titled Find Your Strongest Life tackles this tough question. After reading his blog, in which he shows all sorts of fancy graphs charting the decline in happiness for women since the 70's. I then started thinking about my two Yia Yias. They were both such markedly different women. Here's what they had in common: they were both born in Greece, had arrang… Continue
