Cooking

I have never been a real fan of the kitchen. When I was growing up, my mother forced me to stand in the kitchen and learn cooking techniques. I pretty much daydreamed during this process. When I ventured out into my first marriage, I gradually taught myself, through trial and error, the basics of cooking. I even made my own spaghetti sauce. After my two children were born, I became a stay-at-home mom, and had my days to think about and plan my meals for the week. I collected cookbooks and tried… Continue

Experience Necessary

It doesn't seem to matter that I just spent the last 6 years of my life getting two degrees. I was just informed that I didn't have the experience to meet the job qualifications. Even though the work described was well within my capabilities. Oh well....... Just keep plugging away at this. Continue

Teenagers and Holidays

Today, Memorial Day, was supposed to be family time. My fiance was here and I wanted it to be nice. Right before lunch, my daughter's friend called and invited her to a MudHens game (toledo baseball team). My daughter appeared to have no knowledge of my plans for the day. Job Hunting

What a bear this is. I have several sites that I check daily. It is amazing how one can go through hundreds of jobs and not find a single one to apply to. I just applied to a position with HHS, but haven't heard anything back yet - not unusual for government. I want to find a job that I am happy with, not just a job because I need a job. Part of the reason I went to college was so I wouldn't have to work in retail anymore, so I want a job that is fulfilling in every way. Continue

Graduation Day

Yesterday I graduated with my Masters in Public Administration - at age 44. I just finished 6 years of college, that included my Bachelors degree. It was a pretty exciting moment! Now I spend my spare time job hunting, which is pretty much a full time job. I did get a letter for a second interview for a Public Health apprenticeship - but the budget has been cut, so now the hiring process and program have been delayed. It did make me feel good, though, that out of probably thousands of candidates… Continue
