Do You Friend Teenagers on Facebook?

I'd like to share a story with you: There once was a popular high school teacher. She had a Facebook account that she used for her private social life. Recently, she has been "friended" by several of her teenage students. By "friending" they've made their Facebook pages available to her for viewing. As a consequence, she has seen and read more than she cares to know about their social lives. Some of which involves under-age drinking and drug use...even references to cheating at school or other… Continue

"The Curse of the Good Girl"

I went to hear Rachel Simmons speak last night. She was holding a "Talk" in the very crowded Gunn High School auditorium. I heard the word, "Fire Hazard" mentioned several times as the auditorium was so packed people were filling the aisles and doorways. In fact, I arrived late (due to meltdowns at home...thank you teenagers) and thus found myself standing and perching near the doorway. If you get the chance to hear Rachel speak, if she comes to your area, please go see her. Even if you are the… Continue

Driving Drunk Drivers

I read recently about scooter taxi services sprouting up across the country. Evidently the concept originated in Britain in the 1990's and spread to the U.S. a few years ago. The main "market' for the service is drunk people. I think it's a great idea and maybe one that could be employed by college kids. How it Works The driver arrives on a foldable scooter, which is then stored in the trunk of the customer's car. After getting that customer safely home, the driver jumps back on the scooter to… Continue

Update on Motrin Ad Controversy

Several people have requested a link to the original Motrin Ad that caused all the controversey...here it is.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmykFKjNpdY I'm posting this not to perpetuate the controversy but I think this story is a good case study in both Advertising today and Social Media and it's interaction with Advertising. It also reinforces what we learned a long time ago (in my previous advertising career) that the customer is always right, so you better know what they are thinking and HO… Continue

Motrin Moms Controversy

Since we are TwitterMoms, I thought I'd see some discussions zooming around about the Motrin controversy this week-end. If you were "off the grid" let me bring you up to date. Motrin's ad about babywearing ticked off a lot of moms. After you've watched the video, judge for yourself if the fury was deserved. Evidently the YouTube video of the ad was passed around Twitter and many moms became incensed. Someone finally put together al… Continue

Finding Good Blogs and Building Traffic

For all my fellow bloggers, I have a great idea to pass along. But, if you're NOT a blogger, don't go away! There will be a benefit here for you too, just hang in for a minute. A fellow blogger, recently proposed an idea about how to support bloggers (both old and new) who have great content but few readers. He suggested establishing a group to read 1 blog a week- everyone visits and comments. Thus, driving traffic onto the si… Continue
