My mother-in-law shared this statement with me while we were together for Hanukah regarding some non-profit work she’s doing. It immediately touched me and I knew it applied to what I’m doing with Metromom.

While I say that I appreciate constructive criticism, and I do, it can still derail me a bit. Last week I had set a chunk of time aside to work on a new project when I received an email from a disgruntled member that required my immediate attention. Essentially she was sharing (in a kind way) that after 3 weeks she was canceling her membership due to too many emails from me (which she’d saved and sent to me for my reference) and that my community wasn’t large enough for her.

I woke this morning to spend some quiet time updating my personal intention statement - a statement of all that I want to bring into my life both personally and professionally. Two years ago I’d never heard of an intention statement, the whole idea sounded very illusive. Are you familiar with Microsoft OneNote? It’s becoming my new favorite tool to keep track of all my ideas.
As someone with lots of ideas, I used to keep notebooks and more notebooks with my notes. I know there are great gems in them, as well as action steps I want to take, but they’re not getting done while they’re in a notebook. As a follow-up to my last blog on authenticity, I wanted to add that being authentic may begin with self-awareness but to grow and blossom it requires self-confidence. Why? Because there will be times when being authentic means you have to listen to your inner voice when everyone around you is telling you something completely different. Recently I had one of those weeks where nothing seemed to be going right, or at least that’s how it seemed. Because I wasn’t feeling like myself, I chose not to pick up the phone-not wanting to put my negative energy out there.
