Not just for Lips

Other ways to use lip balm?! Yes, indeed it's a great multi-tasker. Here are a few ideas for using your lip balm to its full potential: *Quick lip scrub--take a bit of regular granulated sugar in the palm of your hand. Rub the end of your lip balm in the sugar until it sticks to it a bit then lightly scrub your lips with the tube. Rinse the sugar off your lips and wipe any excess off the balm in a clean paper towel. *Prevent chapped noses--have a cold or allergy induced runny nose? Place a bit… Continue

Giving Back

Our kids could really help make the world a better place. My son came home from school telling me about a community service project he signed up for, and I suddenly remembered his teachers discussing this earlier in the year. He attends a regular public school, that just so happens to require 10 hours of community service per year for all students. He's really excited about the project he signed up for, and mentioned that he'll be helping out at one of the middle school buildings with upkeep of… Continue

Favorite Holiday Songs

I saw an article recently with a list of the holiday songs the author was already tired of hearing. So, I thought I'd write instead about 5 of my favorite holiday songs!! We listen to a lot of Christmas songs this time of year. With the local radio station that plays them 24-7 and my husband's sincere love of music, we have plenty to get us in the mood of the season. Not feeling too cheery and bright and glistening with Holiday Spirit? Try these: 1. Sleigh Ride--cheery and fun! 2. White Christm… Continue

Pampering Yourself--facial masks you can make at home

For when you can't make it to the spa and your face needs a little TLC, here are a few ideas for some facial masks you can make at home. *Puree half a peeled, sliced cucumber in a food processor or blender and add one-tablespoon plain yogurt. Apply this to the face and let set for about 20 minutes. Gently wipe off with a damp washcloth. With zinc and lactic acid, yogurt is a great treatment for your skin. Cucumbers help hydrate your skin. *Smoosh a handful of strawberries and mix well with one… Continue

Best Holiday Truffle Recipe

I love making these for Christmas to give as gifts or to serve at holiday parties. This is a fun team recipe, too. Mom and I have had lots of fun making these, and my husband, son, and I have made them together, too. They're quick and easy and really tasty. I usually make them with just milk chocolate, but adding the white is nice for a pretty presentation. I also make them larger than recommended here and get about half the number of truffles. Oreo Truffles 1 pkg. (20 oz.) Oreos 1 pkg. (8 oz.… Continue

Benefits of Handmade Soap

Found this interesting article online, and it seemed fitting. :) Enjoy: Soap is the type of product that easily gets taken for granted. You use it in your morning shower, throughout the day to wash your hands, and perhaps again at night while taking a warm bath to relax. While it is certainly a product that people use a lot of, and most people wouldn't want to live without, it remains a product that does not get a lot of attention. Did you know, for instance, that most of the soaps available… Continue

Holiday Gift Project-Snow Covered Pine Cones

Using white candle wax, break up into smaller chunks. Melt the wax in a double boiler or use an empty clean coffee or large veggie can in a pot of boiling water on the stove. Use extreme caution as the wax is flammable. Make sure you have enough wax that the pine cones can be fully immersed. After the wax is melted, you can use candle coloring to make colored pine cones if you'd like (red or green perhaps) or leave it white for the snow covered look. This is also when you can add essential oils… Continue
