13 Things That Parenting Has Taught Me (And that no textbook could)

1. The love of child is the purest kind of love out there. 2. Children know precisely the right moment when to put a smile on your face. 3. It is harder to watch a child fail, than to fail yourself. 4. The years go by faster than you think. 5. You can get more joy out of buying an expensive toy for your child than buying anything for yourself. 6. Money is worthless if you have n… Continue

The Power of Ten

Thanks RA Guy for reminding us that we all have the ability to raise awareness about rheumatoid arthritis. The Power of TenTake ten minutes over the next ten days and talk to at least ten people about rheumatoid arthritis. Real aware… Continue

Today is Fibromyalgia Awareness Day

This year’s theme is “Fibromyalgia Affects Everyone” and the goal this is to emphasize the sweeping effects of the disease – “from broken lives the economic costs to patients and society.” The NFA’s Walk for FAME (Fibromyalgia Awareness Means Everything) is the most significant aspect of this campaign for awareness. 10 Nonsense Things that make me go “HUH?”

Picture - Mike Myers in Things that Make You Go "HUH?" 1. Everything my husband sleeps through, including an argument. The baby is crying and he sleeps. The alarm can go off for hours and he sleeps. Good lord, sometimes I think he is dead! HUH? 2. The contractor… Continue

Celebrity Role Models

Role models are people we look up to and try to imitate. They are those who hard work has paid off in pursuit of their dreams. There has been so much concern, especially with the recent Chris Brown/Rihanna scandal, about the effect that celebrities have on our children. For our children, cel… Continue

Octo-Mom may be getting on everyone’s nerves, but it is time to leave her be

Octo-Mom got exactly what she longed for – celebrity status and a permanent moment in the limelight. Octo-Mom tells Ann Curry that she was an only child (who she still longs for attention) and wanted to fill some missing void (siblings? children?) that she didn’t have as a child. The fact tha… Continue

The Library of the Future

My nine year old has a very creative mind. For the last year, he has been telling me about the library he will be opening up when he is an adult. I have enjoyed listening to him get the mental blueprints together and I hope that he carries this dream into adulthood. The “library of the future”, as he calls it, will be the biggest library in the world. It will have m… Continue

Jack Bauer and Me - All Alone

I am huge 24 fan, but my husband isn’t so I watch Jack Bauer save the day all by my lonesome. I mean, who is not a fan of the show? Who doesn’t wonder what Jack Bauer is going to do next? We joined Jack a few months back in Africa in the 24 movie “Redemption”. Jack was su… Continue

Murphy’s Law

What Momma does not know about Murphy’s Law? And even if you don’t know what Murphy’s Law is, this definition will definitely remind you that you, too, have been a victim of this law. Things will go wrong at precisely the right moment when you need them to go right. I woke up this morning feeling as sick as could be, all knowing that I could not afford to stay home (not monetarily, either). Then… Continue

Sometimes Crappy Moms Need Advice On How To Be Less Crappy

As far as crappy moms go, well I am the crappiest of them all. Or the “most crappy” as my almost nine year old (tomorrow he will be nine) puts it. I purchased two books this week (yes, on two different days). I am trying to work on a few things, like to stop yelling so much, stop getting up on the wrong side of the bed every morning, smile more, allow for my children’s creativity (even when it makes no… Continue

My Sick Husband

Does the “sickness and in health” part of the wedding vows apply when your husband has a bad cold that he has turned in a made up, over-exaggerated terminal illness? For the third day this week, my husband is at home lying in bed because he is sneezing, has a runny nose and perhaps,… Continue

Dear Mr. President-Elect Obama

Dear Mr. President-Elect Obama: For me, you have always been the nice guy – the reason I voted for you and the reason I rallied for you. You gained my respect because of your charismatic nature and a personality that lacks aggression. You are not a noise maker nor do you invite persons as such in your life. And you have also proved that nice guys don’t finish last. You stand up for your beliefs and when confronted, you handle every situation that comes your way. The media has given you the name… Continue

Looking Back…2008

Looking back isn’t something I like to do, but 2008 is a year worth remembering. It was a year filled with happiness, sadness and trials. It was a year that taught me how strong I can be. In the earlier part of the year, I found out I was pregnant. Mind you, my baby was eight years old at the time and the whole baby thing was so overrated for me. I was to take my LSATs in the spring, start law school in the fall - well so much for dreaming. I found out I was pregnant with my now four month old… Continue

They Grow Up So Fast

“They grow up so fast.” When my mom used to say it, she would say it with tears in her eyes. Now it is my turn and I, too, say it with tears in my eyes and big ache in my heart. No one told me about the big heartache. I had to figure that out when I became a parent, when realized how fast they do grow up. My eight year old turns nine in five days. Five days? That means that these nine years have gone by faster than I ever imaged. And the baby - in seven days - he will start his fifth month in th… Continue

Happy New Year!

As the year nears to end, I welcome it. I want to put behind me 2008 and I am pretty sure that I am not alone in that one. Life has become harder for all of us. At Christmas time, there were fewer gifts under Christmas trees. They were less people traveling to visit loved ones for the… Continue

New Years Resolutions

Every year, I make a list of things I am going to change for the New Year and I never follow through. This year, I refuse to make a single resolution. Not that I don’t need to, I just know that my list will never be completed. When I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, the world suddenly stood still for me. For the first time, in probably my entire life, I saw the world more clearly. At first, I was in a trance – a state of denial, I suppose. Then, I was angry at God and the world. Last, I… Continue
