Let's Talk Turkey

What's up with the "turkey pardon" thing. Every year elected officials waste time pardoning a turkey for Thanksgiving. Tell me, do you think the turkey knows this? Why pardon an animal when there are so many people on death rows all across the country? We've already executed (read MURDERED) Nobel Peace Prize Tookie Williams. The establishment has been trying to murder...err execute Mumia Abu Jamal for four decades. Americans have taken the Marine approach to killing: Kill them all and let God so… Continue

Reverend Wright was Right

Now that the fervor has subsided and we can actually look at what was said in context of history, we know deep down that Reverend Wright spoke for many of us. He was not divisive as many tried to paint him. He was untactfully correct, brutally honest. Even now we debate our place in America's world. With our young men killing each other for no reason, no true leaders to give alternatives, we are compelled to find a reason rather than blame. There is enough blame to go around. Reverend Wright ju… Continue

Update on me

I suppose an update is in order. I've been fairly busy, or at least "unidle". My blog has really taken off and I've been busier than you could imagine. I'm working on a television show with a colleague. I'm also formulating questions that I'd like to have input from you guys and permission to post on my blog. I've been nominated for a couple of blog awards at http://www.blackweblogawards.com Feel free to vote for me. I'd love it and it would be very much appreciated. The family is doing fine.… Continue

Treatment by Pigmentation

I find night the best time for me to write. My mind is full of the previous day’s events. I’ve had an opportunity to digest the news of that day and anticipate on what could be coming. Having insomnia is a both a blessing and curse. Treatment by pigmentation. I’ve seen more of that lately than I would like to in this city I have grown to love. The old adage “the darker the skin, the denser the brain” does not and should not ever had applied. But it did. And now it still does. We have a wonderful… Continue

The Frontlines of Hatred

Broad daylight. Walking alone to the car from a convenience store. No different than any other day. You hear the typical epithets. Towelhead. Raghead. Sandn**ger. For some of us this is part of the daily grind. Unfortunate, but true. But there was a difference today. Being shoved into a car, pushed to the sidewalk. Spit on. Unbelievable. What was even more appalling is that there were other people out there. Watching the atrocity. Perhaps they were too shocked to stop it. Perhaps their lack of a… Continue

Drug Control

I have several illnesses that require my taking several medications. Unfortunately, the majority of my meds are controlled substances. Here in Oklahoma (and several other places), we have a registry that keeps track of who gets what controlled substances. Even though pseudofedrine isn't a controlled substance, it's on the list because people apparently use it to make meth or something. WalMart has gotten into the act as well. You can't purchase liquid paper, spray paint and several other items w… Continue

Step One

My friend is having man troubles. I think at some point in our lives we all have troubles with the opposite sex. But the year has just begun and it's far too early for man-drama (or woman drama). People let's set some ground rules right now. 1. Desparation is a stinky cologne. If you've called him 3 times in a row and he hasn't returned your call. It is time to move on. Unless he's in Iraq, in a coma' or dead then there is really no excuse for not returning a call. The same for emails, text mes… Continue

Teen Gone Wild

This is a conversation with a dear friend. Actually, it is a compilation of conversations, chats, emails, phone calls that we have been having over the past year with more and more frequency. Our commonality is that we all have teen children. Some boys, some girls, some both. Something has happened this year, last year. Our teens are on fire. No matter what their upbringing- a mansion in Nichols Hills or the projects- they have apparently lost their collective minds. We have between the 6 famil… Continue

It's Mr. President to You

I have noticed over the past few days on the "reputable" news sources -both television and print- referring to POTUS as Mr. Obama. Now, I'm sure that the PRESIDENT has too many things on his mind (thanks to the mess that Mr. Bush left behind to clean up) to concern himself with such a small symbol of disrespect. Many of us, however, are reading the paper and watching the news and we are not happy. I will give you an out and assume that it's just a subconscious faux pas. Perhaps they were secret… Continue

All Life Has Meaning

It happens every year and this time I'm just tired of it. Tragedy after tragedy. Someone dies. Someone is found dead. Someone is hurt, treated unfairly, almost killed, a victim of malpractice, mistreatment. At the end of the year (as every year), there is the perfunctory list of "celebrity" deaths throughout the previous year. 2007 was dominated by Anna Nicole Smith. Who would get the body, who would get the baby, who would really cared? She was drugged out, overpaid, untalented (or at least no… Continue

The Inauguration

It wasn't until President Barack Hussein Obama took the oath of office to become officially the 44th President of the United States that it hit me. This is real. This is really real. I have had since November 4th to wrap my mind around this in theory. I have known for awhile that this day was coming. But this is the first time that the emotion of the moment overcame the logic. This is the first time that the tears flowed freely, that my heart felt full, but sad and disheartened. We have come so… Continue

Family and videos

I've been doing video slideshows for the family for quite some time, and I've always had to mail them out to them. Fortunately, this time I think I might have found a way to let them all get their videos or at least see them before I send them out and find out changes have to be made. Let me know what you think! http://afridigidiva.com/videos/SomethingAboutUs.html Continue

What Is Race?

What is Race? Posted By AfriDigiDiva on January 11, 2009 | Edit On the surface it seems as though the answer would be simple. Most of us older than 40 were taught that there were three races of humans - Negroid, Caucasoid and Mongoloid. This had been the prevalent mindsent for centuries. You were either Black, White or Asian. If you were of “mixed raced”, then you were considered the less dominate race. So even if one parent were black and the other Asian, you were considered black because Asia… Continue

Wisdom from Maya Angelou

In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70+ birthday. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older. And, there on television, she said it was "exciting." Regarding body changes, she said there were many, occurring every day...like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach her waist, first. The audience laughed so hard they cried. She is such a simple and honest woman, with so much wisdom in her words! Maya Angelou said this: "I've learned that no matt… Continue

National Bird Day

Yes, you heard it here first! Let’s go bird watching! Today is National Bird Day. National Bird Day” is not only a good day to take time to appreciate the native wild birds flying free outside our windows, it is also a perfect time to reflect on how we treat the native birds of other countries. While we have enacted laws to protect our native birds — such as blue jays, cardinals, and crows — from commercial exploitation, we fail to recognize the inconsistency in allowing the pet industry to… Continue

No Grannys Allowed

I have come to the decision that I will never stop raising children. No matter how old I get, no matter how ill I become, there will always be a diaper to change, a nose to wipe, a class to teach. I have nurtured children, my own and others. Now my grandchildren. I'm tired. Is it okay to just be tired? This time, I don't know if I can just say that and not have it thrown in my face later. It's not that I don't love my grandchildren, I do. It's just that granny needs time not to be a grandma and… Continue

Bittersweet Love

I wasn’t going to blog today. Sundays are my day of rest and reflection; it’s family time. But I am brimming over. I am walking on feathers on clouds on air. I have four granddaughters, all scattered all over the world - Northern Africa, Texas, Illinois. My children, my grandchildren are scattered and so my heart is scattered. I have asked for that void to be filled so many times. I take on other children to not replace, but to help hold those places that should be filled by my babies. It’s not… Continue

I am so very sorry for being neglectful. Thank you to all of you who have wished me birthday greetings, New Years greetings, invited me to be friends, accepted my offers of friendship. I am grateful to each and every one of you.
