twitter moms: the influential moms network

It happens to the best of us. We know we need to write a blog post. It's been over a week. And though somehow topics for blog posts seem to run rampant in our heads during the most inopportune times (changing diapers, in the shower, during a game of catch), when we sit down to write, somehow they've all disappeared. It's called Blogger's Block. :)

If this happens to you, I've got a few idea starters to get you going on a blog post ... at least until the next one rolls around.

1) Offer your take on the hot news of the day.
2) Take a quick glance through some of your new email newsletters for ideas.
3) Interview an interesting person who relates to your blog topic and post their profile. In fact, send them a list of questions and post as is. No work, and they're likely to share your post with all of their contacts.
4) A top 5 or 10 list.
5) What do you love/hate about something?
6) Comment on someone else's blog post. They'll love the link you give them, too!
7) Invite someone to be a guest blogger. Again, you're exposing yourself to a whole new crowd. Always a good thing!
8) Write a poll and invite people to weigh in.
9) Provide an update on something you blogged about in the past.
10) Turn advice or an explanation you gave a client/colleague recently into a post.

What other inspiration do you use when you get stuck writing a blog post? What other idea starters do you suggest? Let's get a great list going here!

When I'm really stuck I either blog about something cute my kids have said or done, post a fun picture, or invite my readers in to my home by describing something about my life or my house.
What pictures are on your mantle?
What's your favorite room?
Where does your family like to hang out?

People love to read about those more personal aspects of a blogger's life and it's a great writing exercise for the blogger!

Definitely don't get hung up on it being perfect. Blogs are meant to be imperfect and that makes them more readable because you feel like you're talking with a real person. Write what comes from your heart and that is good enough. If it's something you love, it will come out and people will love reading it. If you get too stuck on each post being perfect, writing your blog will become a burden and you don't want that. Just write... :)

Thanks Lyn. Very helpful. I have my blog up but not launched because I'm waiting til I have the perfect (!) first one. Sigh. Could be months!

Thank you for this post...I have been trying to find ways to make my blog more diversified, I find myself blogging alot about business, but not really about life or other things. But I seen this list this morning, printed it off and will keep it in mind. I am new to the whole blogging thing so this is extremely helpful

Great ideas! Thanks for sharing.

I sometimes use condensed articles from my ezine or article submissions. It's a way of repurposing my work without having to do it all over again.

I also like to post action alerts for hot items going on in Congress that will motivate and educate others to join in and make a difference.

It can be time consuming to keep up with it all, I admit. So now I am training my virtual assistant to help with this task.

Keep blogging, ladies, the world needs to know what your gifts are!

Lyn, thanks for the jumpstart ideas. There are days when my mind is swirling with so many ideas about what to blog about AND THEN there are days when the ideas just don't come. I've placing your post on my bulletin board as a reminder.

Good information. I went two weeks without updating my blog (even though I swore I wouldn't do that) and just got back into the swing. I'll definitely be using some of these.

I'd suggest hand-picking who you would like to do a guest blog and offer to do one for them in return. As far as blogging help, my company offers that, but you could also use a service like Guru.com to post the need, list your budget, etc. and get a freelancer who might want to do it.
