twitter moms: the influential moms network

I just know I'm going to love someone when they tell me, "I start each day with a big cup of coffee and even bigger pair of slippers." That's the kind of comfort and ease you'll feel if you get to know Mindee Doney, our TwitterMom of the Week. (She's the blonde -- "not the way God made me, but just the way my husband likes me," according to Mindee.)

But I don't get the feeling Mindee's in her slippers for long, once the caffeine kicks in -- she is, after all, one-half of the team known as the "Boogie Moms," of Boogie Wipes fame. Mindee and her business partner, Julie Pickens, both of Beaverton, Oregon, developed Boogie Wipes in 2007 as a solution for their kids’ runny, red noses. Months of market research led to the invention of the Boogie Wipe: a saline-infused wipe that soothes chapped, rough noses while dissolving mucus. At the end of 2008, Boogie Wipes were available in 30,000 U.S. stores and sales had reached $1.2 million. The mommy duo projects 2009 sales to hit $6 million!

Wow. How cool to have successful mompreneurs like Mindee, participating on TwitterMoms! You can find her comments in groups like Savvy Business Moms and Direct Selling Moms -- where she recently posted news of a fantastic opportunity for mom inventors (and mommies-to-be), "The Mom-Invented Boogie Baby Shower."

"To celebrate moms-to-be this Mother's Day, we've designed a contest where one lucky, expectant mommy will receive a party in her honor valued at $5,000," says Mindee. "It includes 25 mom-invented swag bags for shower guests, cake, flowers, decor, a one year's supply of Boogie Wipes, a Boogie Wipes Diaper Cake and gift certificates to Babies R Us, Target and Diapers.com."

While it appears that the "swag bags" are now filled with all kinds of wonderful, mom-invented products, you can still enter the contest until May 9th -- see the website, www.boogiewipes.com, for all contest rules and to enter.

So, what's life like for this busy mompreneur?

"The further we get into this wild and crazy business, the more we realize we could not do it without the 'mom skills' we started learning the day the motherhood train hit us," says Mindee, who has three children (ages 6, 2 and 2 mo.). "Women are forced through so many changes when becoming a mom. We learn to be more patient, more humble, more resourceful and much, much more resilient. Julie and I draw on these strengths every day and remain confident our business of being a mom was our boot camp for Boogie Wipes."

While Mindee admits that her kids probably watch more than the "suggested" amount of TV, and that she does not/cannot cook, she says, "I don't sweat the small stuff and rarely get angry. Frustrated, overwhelmed, fed up and flabbergasted every day -- but rarely angry. I think every experience is there for a reason and anger only makes it worse." She says her life coach once told her that "if you are on the path meant for you, life comes at you faster, easier and with much more intent."

Apart from her life as a hard-working Boogie Mom, Mindee says she works out religiously "for the sole purpose of being able to eat what I want." She drinks "way too much" Diet Coke, loves her husband "more than anything in my life," and occasionally teaches Jazzercise.

And yes, I DID happen to ask her our goofy question: "What's your all-time favorite TV show/movie/book, and what would you most like to be eating while you watch/read?"

"Favorite TV show is Days of Our Lives -- I Tivo it and watch it on the weekends when my kids are napping. I can get through 5 episodes in about an hour and 20 minutes! Favorite movie, Titanic. The last book I read was Babywise 7 years ago, so I'm subbing this out for magazines: Working Mother, Entrepreneur and People. I also just discovered e-books for listening on the plane, and took in Seth Godin's 'The Dip' over Utah last week. And my favorite snack food is Trader Joe's Spicy Flax Seed Tortilla Chips with Sweet Tomatoless Corn Salsa."

I may have a kindred spirit : Diet coke; Day of Our Lives, & a very busy home and work life.
Congratulations on all your success & I'll look for Boogie Wipes next time I am in Walmart or Toys R Us.

I've known Mindee for years and can honestly say that she is a gem! She's an amazing mom that juggles better than an octopus could - she might very well have 8 hands considering all that she does. And she excels in everything she takes on.

She also has a really big heart and sincerely enjoys helping other people. Mindee is an inspiration and I'm so proud to know her.

Oh, and Boogie Wipes are awesome! I can't tell you how many we've gone through this year. With young kiddos at home, and a tough cold season, they were a true blessing in our home!

Thanks for highlighting one incredible mom!

Wow - gotta meet this gal! I can totally relate (as I drink my huge cup of coffee and have no plans for cooking dinner tonight). :) I especially loved the quote by the life coach... so true! To translate into spiritual terms... when you're living in God's will, His plans (and abundant blessings) for you are always more than you could have ever planned or imagined.

What an inspirational story! Congrats on all the success. I just moved to Ohio from Beaverton, OR and this story really hit home for me. I couldn't be more excited and happy for them. And now I need to find where to buy Boogie Wipes!
