twitter moms: the influential moms network

I'm sure many of us have friendships with women who have chosen to work outside the home. I was in retail for over 20 years and 2 of those last years I was an Assistant Manager. I decided to stay home after my daughter begged me to stop working, and after I realized I had totally missed my daughter's first two years of life...that is something I will never get back and I will always regret.

We are all different though, and I certainly would not begrudge anyone wanting to make a living outside the home, but I would ask quite gently that those who do choose to work outside the home do not refer to us SAHM's and WAHM's as stupid and lazy.

I have a friend who is a mother herself, but works outside the home. Her disdain for stay at home mothers is quite apparent and finally this weekend I had to put her in her place. I usually don't pop off at people I know, but I did say this:

I am here to say this. It takes ALOT to stay at home AND run a business at the same time. No one is there to help...its all you baby and pulling yourself together by the end of the day so your husband still looks at you like your the princess of his heart is equally as hard. I cannot tell you how many times my husband has come home to me still in my pj's...hair all askew, and the kitchen full of items I have just made for the day. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to make a meal out of whatever was in the fridge(can you say refridgerator chili, anyone?).

On the weekend evenings I put on some makeup and make myself look special and we go out as a family. For those who think SAHM's and WAHM's don't a have an important place in this world...they should come visit my family and see why we do.

Sweetie, I am so sorry to hear that there are still people out there that have nothing better to do then to put others down! If the bond between women isn't strong enough to unite us, then what is? I've been in the process of starting my first "OUTSIDE" business, but never in my life would I dismiss the hard work and talent that goes into having and managing a home based business. Matter of fact, I'm opening an Irish pub and I already decided a long time ago that I was going to look to do business with a couple of home based businesses that sell different products These products will be used as prizes my customers can win. This is a win/win situation! I get the benefits of finding unique, one-of-a-kind items and an opportunity to establish a one-on-one work relationship with the top person of the company. In return, home based businesses will benefit from an increase in sales revenue as well as enjoying a little free advertising that will take place when their products are being distributed and promoted through my business.
My advise to you hun, is to not waste another minute of your valuable time concerning yourself with the ignorant opinions of those who simply don't understand what it means to be respectful of others.
Sincerely Teresa
