twitter moms: the influential moms network

The talks about the candidates have been heated. The debates have covered a myriad of topics ranging from "spreading the wealth" to "Joe the Plumber." No, this isn't network TV. Or even CNN or Fox. It's my house.

I don't know if I should be proud or afraid that my 7-year-old is "voting fowa Jowan McCain." That my 9-year-old is calling me Obama Mama. What about my 13-year-old voting for the Constitution Party candidate, Chuck Baldwin? Who is he anyway? At least he didn't say Ralph Nader.

Of course these little people can't vote. But boy oh boy have they been campaigning. And they've been workin' on me HARD. Do any of you have a family that single handedly supports ALL parties involved?

And they even know the issues on the ballot. "Mom, are you voting for the casino? What about the school levy? Perhaps you should research the payday lending interest rate cap."

"Doesn't Obama support No Child Left Behind?" my precocious daughter asks. "What's that?" the 15-year-old asks as the 13-year-old tries to explain it. "Oh," the 15-year-old says. "I thought it was about busing. Like backing up for kids who are running late." Whose kids are these?

Actually, I'm quite proud of my little evangelists. What they're experiencing and witnessing with this election is history in the making. They're engaged in the process, not just the outcome. Although I must say -- as these percentage points flash across the screen with only a fraction of the voting results in, the end result is clearly important. It's like OSU vs. Michigan over here.

"Obama is at 51% and McCain's at 48!" my petite one just announced. It might be easier to explain the electoral process to them than it is to explain the waiting. It's quite possible we'll all be up until the wee hours waiting for something definite. I guess that gives me more time to research the Constitution Party. Or maybe tell them a tale of how their mother once voted for Ross Perot.

"Who's Ross Perot?" Well, this could take a while.
