Do any of you out there have friends who just hit the "Forward" button and send every email that crosses their desk without verifying the data? I have a few of those, God love them.
So, when an email showed up in my inbox today warning me not to buy giftcards for Christmas gifts this year, I checked in with my good friends at http://www.snopes.com and it turns out that the accuracy of the closings is a mixed bag. Snopes gives a recently updated list update at http://search.atomz.com/search/?sp-q=stores+going+out+of+business+selling+gift+certificates&sp-a=00062d45-sp00000000&sp-advanced=1&sp-p=all&sp-w-control=1&sp-w=alike&sp-date-range=-1&sp-x=any&sp-c=100&sp-m=1&sp-s=0&x=32&y=15
I would suggest that with the volatility of the retail industry this season, you might want to think carefully about gift cards as a gift and if you decide that its a good idea, be sure to check the updated snopes list!
Or, even better...do your Christmas shopping at the TwitterMoms Holiday Catalog or at my shopping blog at http://www.glamourbylbd.com!
