I read recently about scooter taxi services sprouting up across the country. Evidently the concept originated in Britain in the 1990's and spread to the U.S. a few years ago. The main "market' for the service is drunk people. I think it's a great idea and maybe one that could be employed by college kids.

How it Works

The driver arrives on a foldable scooter, which is then stored in the trunk of the customer's car. After getting that customer safely home, the driver jumps back on the scooter to go to the next pick-up. Scooterman is one of the brands in Britain. Zingo, which was started in Atlanta in 2005, has already expanded into about two dozen markets. Zingo drivers are hired by the hour for $40/hour. Rates include a $20.00 pick-up fee, plus $2/per mile. CityScoot, in Louisville, Kentucky, has delivered more than 50,000 consumers home safely since 2004. And, it looks like there is one in Raleigh.
College Campuses

Wouldn't this be a great cottage business for a college-kid? College campuses need services like this and I know some colleges do provide the "designated driver taxi" but I would assume it's all fairly dis-jointed. It could also be a great service project for a service club or fraternity/sorority. Just an idea.

This would be a great idea for college campuses! I have seen them over the summer time in my area and we almost used them but instead we decided to walk...(-;
