Lois Geller

My grandfather told me how he thrived during the Great Depression.

My grandfather was a builder in Philadelphia. He came from Russia and became very "Americanized" as my grandmother put it. So, when he brought over all of his relatives to help them out, that was part of life for him: Giving Back.

During the hard times of the Depression, he put on a positive face. He had to sell most of the valuables they had in the house, but when he went out to "work", he always looked his finest, and continued to have a car, and even a driver named Randall. I'm not sure if her paid him in money or food...but everyone thought he was doing fine. All of that, made him feel fine too. He was positive guy, dressed well, spoke in a quiet voice...and always spent his time learning new things.

He told me when I was a little girl, that if he put in the effort of three men, he'd have the success of at least two. I never forgot that. So, recently when many of our clients in my advertising/marketing agency have bene cutting down their budgets (we work with large corporations)...I've been working like three women, and so we're doing better than last year.

So, stay positive, look your very best, speak well, try a dozen new things that may or may not work...just do them. And hopefully you'll come out the better in this economy.

Please let me know how you're doing, though. I want to hear more about those great things you're doing.
