I went to hear Rachel Simmons speak last night. She was holding a "Talk" in the very crowded Gunn High School auditorium. I heard the word, "Fire Hazard" mentioned several times as the auditorium was so packed people were filling the aisles and doorways. In fact, I arrived late (due to meltdowns at home...thank you teenagers) and thus found myself standing and perching near the doorway.
If you get the chance to hear Rachel speak, if she comes to your area, please go see her. Even if you are the mother of boys, but particularly if you are the mother of girls, GO. She is a vivacious, energetic and informative speaker. She gets her points across in a way that you forget her advice and information is based on solid research.
Take Your Daughter

Take your daughter with you to hear her, it's really a talk for both parent and teen. Her "talks" are engaging and interactive. In fact, several times she employed the use of interactive texting with the audience so they could see the responses up on a screen. Very, very clever. She would pose a question and have the audience text their responses, anonymously of course, and everyone could see the responses. Way to go..using contemporary technology, embraced by teens to teach and inform. Loved it.
