twitter moms: the influential moms network

What is this twitter business all about?

I'm on Facebook. I tried LiveJournal. I have a completely separate, but wonderful group of 18 or so women that I keep up with exclusively online. I even have a MySpace page, but I haven't signed on in a hundred years or so. I think I'm doing okay with the digital age for someone who learned BASIC in high school on Radio Shack TANDY. If you don't know what a TANDY is, you were probably born after 1980.

But Twitter? What is this? It's been around awhile, where have I been? This is different. I signed up yesterday, and I can tell, this is not like Facebook. I'm not going to be connecting with lots of people I knew years ago and forgot about. People I've never heard of are friending me. Mostly people who seem to have some reason to want to expand their friends list; they've written a book, or have some other thing to sell.

So, will Twitter make the cut? Will I keep using it? Will I be annoyed in another day or two and cancel my account? Will I find new friends that I'll want to meet in real life and plan yearly visits across country? The suspense is killing me.

Thoughts?
