My garden does not have a name, but I'm liking the thought that it should...gonna have to ponder the notion awhile to see if something comes to mind. I have tried to make my garden something friends can share, but none of my friends ever make the time. Most of my neighbors have their own plots and we all share any overabundance with each other...I always get a mass of grapes and apples at harvest times from my neighbors, and we often share when we have something really special growing :)
A few times I have created gift baskets overflowing with fresh veggies and herbs from my garden and they are always very well received. I've also shared potted herbs and rhubarb to others for getting their own garden started, and I've offered excess plants and veggies through the local freecycle groups - this is a wonderful resource for sharing - I've received many plants and seeds through it.
Thanks for sharing that vid...really enjoyed it. It made me miss Washington some...I used to live near Seattle.
Yes, dehydrating does take the food down to little bulk, but that's part of the beauty, getting so much packed into a small space for storage. I mostly use dehydrating for my anaheim pepper crop - gives me little pepper bits I can throw into any recipe.
For my pesto, I usually grow at least a dozen basil plants - this provides plenty for using fresh and a pesto supply that lasts our family the entire winter and some sharing a little (I put some in small decorative jars for gifting).
The DJ business pretty much holds it own and is pretty consistent. We didn't try this past year to expand it as I was running a very busy commercial cleaning company working 6 to 7 nights a week. Now that things have slowed dramatically on that front we are thinking of expanding the DJ business. That has been the job that I have made the most money at. We did get a call today from a bar owner to do DJ/Karaoke 3x a week. So there is some good news. We will be calling him tomorrow to make an appointment to come and talk to him.
My dogs get along pretty well and when the grand puppy comes over he plays with the puppy and gives the older dogs a break. So everyone is happy and the puppies get exhausted.
Hey Ann how are you today? As for me I am doing wonderful. I like your photo with the big red lips- it reminds me when I was little, my dad use to buy my sisters and I wax lips like that.
Thanks for anwering my question about Raw Milk..I didn't know that unpasterized milk was safe to drink. Would you prefer Raw Milk than organic milk and if so (or not) what is the difference.
To answer your question about soap. I haven't started making any soap. I was browsing on of the groups and someone had a recipe for homemade laudry detergent-that I may give a try......but I would love to know how to make organic/natural hand soaps, bath soaps.
A normal DJ weekend is Friday and Saturday night. This coming weekend is busier as I am doing a wedding so my day will start earlier on Saturday. I have other DJs that work for me as we have a couple of places on Friday and Saturday nights and one on Tuesday nights. I tell everyone I get paid to party. It is a fun job and I do enjoy it even though I don't get home till 3 or 4 in the morning.
I think I run my own doggie daycare as we have 3 dogs, 4 cats and 2 birds and sometimes I have my grand puppy with me. I usually get to "babysit" Zissou (my grandpuppy) once every couple months. Kirby and him just get along great and go non-stop.
When I was younger I used to watch the babies from newborn to 1 1/2 years old at my church. That was the best.
I think it's great that Tirzah (sorry if I spelled it wrong) gets to do all that she does with babies and seeing your business.
Have a good one and I hope there are too many "best" things for you today that you have a hard time choosing.
I'm a longstanding gardener...well, longstooping actually :) But I'm still learning the best practices for gardening in the Utah climate...we have a long hot summer.
As for food storage, I don't have time to devote much to it...I dry some stuff, freeze some stuff and make jams/jellies. The main thing I always get into storage each year is a big supply of homemade basil pesto - I make up a big batch and freeze it in ice cube trays for using all winter.
I focus more to diversify what I grow and just plant small amounts so we can enjoy a variety of things fresh from the garden. I grow corn, beans, peas, tomatoes, eggplant, beets, kohlrabi, squash, zucchini, onions, garlic, cucumbers, peppers, rhubarb, basil, marjoram, chives, thyme, sage, chamomile, lovage, strawberries, raspberries, loganberries, apples, peaches, plums, pears and a variety of flowers.
Hi Ann! Thanks for connecting!
I'm a little late responding to your question...The day is still early and just getting going but so far- waking up to see my beautiful son and husband on a sunny day that isn't boasting -20 C temperatures is a good way to start it off.
I think your question is a one we should ask ourselves everyday and give thanks, as small as it may be.
Blessings to you too. =)
You have a very beautiful smile.
No, I'd never heard of it, but I just checked it out. It seems like a great resource, and since we're planning to step up our landscaping this year, this is a great website to know about!
Thanks for the tip!
I've got the photo backed up on the internet, as well as the original on my computer. I'm entering a hard copy into a photo contest this summer. I'm really excited!
Hi Ann,
The best thing that happened to me today was taking my kids to a neighborhood park and being outside for a few hours. It's been cold and rainy for the past 5 days, so everyone was ecstatic to see the sun.
Met another mom there with her two kids. Had a really nice time talking to her and watching all our children play (her 2 and my 2). My children are ages 6 and 3 and her children are 2 year old twins. It was fun to watch them interact and to watch my kids, especially my 3 year old son, watch out for the littler ones. Usually he's the little guy. I think he liked being the "big kid".
Hi Ann it was a busy DJ weekend so I haven't been on the computer. Never heard of laugh clubs.
Animals definitely are a blessing. They are always happy to see you.
Badger Boy would probably be best in cold water so he doesn't shrink. I bet he was having fun sorting the laundry.
I had thought about starting a doggie daycare but didn't want to stress my dogs out and getting a location would be expensive. To compromise I have ads out for dog walking and pet sitting. Animals and kids are my weak point. I just love em and can't help smiling when I see one.
Hope you had a great weekend. I'm still tired from the late nights this weekend.
Thanks for your comment about my boys. They are my life. The best thing that happened to me today? Hum....I think that would have to be spending some quality time with the boys. We had a good day today. Weekends are usually pretty rough around here.
Thanks for the warm welcome Ann....I will make sure I visit Nourishing Moms...I see that you are a member of homeschooling moms...are you a homeschooler?....if so how long? This is something that I am interested in doing. I am going to pray about it and pray that it is the best thing for my children
I am easily amused. Doesn't take much to make me laugh. It can be a funny quote or a silly antic of an animal or a stupid joke on sitcom. I remember laughing yesterday but not about what. (It's that some timer's setting in). Today I have been laughing at the puppies. I am watching my daughter's puppy and my son's puppy lives with us. They are so funny together. I picked up Zissou (Shih Tzu/Laso mix) and on the way home stopped at Petsmart to pick up two carrot stuffed toys for them to play with. They were so happy to see each other and really happy when I gave them each a carrot. They ran happily off together and have been playing ever since. They will be very tired tonight. Yay! I might get some sleep.
I've never made lamb so let me know how your recipe turns out. I have been trying new recipes myself by looking online. Some have turned out good and others we have not been impressed. Our favorite is a cheeseburger mac and cheese. It is easy to make and is a hit. Here is the link to the recipe just in case you ever want to try it. http://www.rachaelray.com/recipe.php?recipe_id=2405.
Have a wonderful day and I agree with the post from Louise that we all need to laugh more. Laughing is good for the soul.
No, I hadn't seen pathtofreedom yet...thx for sharing, looks like good stuff there. As for art, my interests are varied and wide. I paint with oils/canvas for a hobby and enjoy studying art history.
Do you do much gardening? Food preservation/storage?
