Ann, I would love to know more about the farm you are at this weekend. It sounds like something I would love to do. Hope you are enjoying your time away.
Thanks, Ann! "All Moms Work" is the title of my forthcoming book. I include lots of advice for work at home moms in the book. Check it out at: www.allmomswork.com.
Good idea on the e-course name. I'll have to let you read it before I post it.
To give you an idea on my luck with gardening. We have a perinenal (sp?) garden that came with the house. The first year I tried pulling all the weeds and I noticed my neighbors flowers looked wonderful. I asked her what she did and she told me Miracle Grow. Sounded good to me so I bought some and sprayed it on my garden. The only thing that grew well were all the weeds that now had great nutrition and they choked out my flowers. LOL I spent 2 hours pulling weeds trying to save the flowers but after 2 hours you couldn't hardly tell that I had done anything. I gave up. We added a pond and new flowers.
Then I had the great idea of having flowers line the walkway and thought wildflower mix would be very nice. I was tired of pulling weeds so I thought putting Preen down would be a great idea. Oops, they were wildflowers and the Preen didn't allow them to grow.
I plant annuals now and don't have to worry about them.
The only plant I have ever been able to keep alive was a plant that had purple felt like stuff on the leaves. You couldn't kill it. No matter whether you water it or not it thrived. The last one I had got lost somehow in the move to this house 14 years ago.
So I need a gardener, maid and a money tree in my back yard.
I'll have to put my thinking cap on and come up with an e-course.
Busy weekends are good but tiring. Saturday we are doing a friends wedding and then Sunday I am cleaning all day at two different places. I'm tired just thinking of it. The wedding should be fun so I'm looking forward to that.
I love getting things cleaned up or organized. Great feeling of accomplishment.
I see from other posts that you do a lot of gardening. Unfortunately I have a black thumb and what I could grow the deer would eat. You should put up pictures of what your garden produces.
Hey Ann, I did get a look at The Big Red Lips. Beautiful....and No, I have never heard of upside down tomatoes, let me know how that goes. I could not find the soap recipe but I did find another on Youtube that I am going to try. It only has three ingredients. I will send it over to you
Thanks again for the brainstorming tip. I have never made an e-book. On my site I have some tips for singers but I think that is a great idea for tips for customers. Have you ever made an e-book?
I had a busy weekend with 2 weddings and this weekend is just as busy. I'm finally getting caught up on the postings.
What are you taking about? Who are "they"? I am a member of Mountain Bounty farm and I get a CSA box, is that what you are talking about? In Nevada County?
That's a good start!
Well, you are better than me.. I can do " Sawadee"
at best!
I am mostly bilingual. I speak English and Indonesian/Malay and some Mandarin.
We love to go to Thailand for short holidays to places like Bangkok and Phuket and we LOVE Thai food!
I am a spa junkie, I travel all over the region to try out the spas. Incidentally, I am into the spa business as well, I am working on a Eastern Therapies website promoting eastern methodologies in spa treatments and marketing it to US and Australia/NZ.
The products I am looking at promoting are primarily from Indonesia and Thailand. These products are herb based blended aromatic essential oils. Still in the process of reviewing and testing products and application techniques at the moment.
Half Moon Bay is a wonderful place... I'm glad we chose it to get married there, because it gives us a good excuse to get back there at least once a year!
Yeah, the exploding tea bag is a lot of fun ;) Thanks for checking out my blog! It's a little old, but I'm working my way around to reviving it. We just moved, and that's on the list for when most of the dust settles!
Hi Ann,
13 years in Thailand! You must be like a Thai native by now! You must love Thailand, their people are very warm and hospitable.
Do you speak any Thai at all?
Hi again Ann,
I checked out your myspace page on your suggestion. I am hooked!:) As you can see, I have 4 children, the 2 oldest I home/cyberschool, and then my other 2 are 3 years old and 2 years old, and I am planning on the same education for them. So, my husband and I have been looking to find some type of way I can bring in some income, while still staying true to our kids. I just hate the thought of having a rigid schedule that takes me away from home every day. This candle business sounds so perfect!! We live in a gated community in the Poconos, and the homeowners assoc. affords a lot of networking opportunities. Fundraising would be as simple as pie, and word-of-mouth is as good as gold around here, and on and on, lol. This seems like something I could really do, and most importantly, love doing! My kids could even help out (My soon to be 16 year old son has been begging for a job, to earn spending money, but I keep putting him off. He has a 4.0 and I don't want any outside activities, like a regular job, infringing on that educational success. Our goal is a scholarship to Harvard, so....lol) I definitely need to bring in some income, although my husband makes good money, its just never enough when you have a brood, ha ha. I sent my email address to you for the e-course. Tomorrow I will talk with my husband about your business and the different start-up packages. I just have to tell you, this seems like a fantastic opportunity, the best of all possible worlds. I can continue educating my kids here at home, raise my tiniest tots to:), network and make friends, keep plugging away at my book writing, and earn as much money as possible, on my own schedule. I love candles, and so does everyone I know. The healthier the better to. This really seems like a blessing to me. Well, I am a night-owl (its 1:50 am here), but I think I'll head up to bed and delve back into my latest read ("Tweak" - Nic Sheff.....) Last night I stayed up til 5 am reading, so even I'm a little tired tonight. (Thank goodness I have a loving, understanding, and early-riser husband, lol!!) Hope to hear from you soon....Tracy
Hello Ann! Great to meet you! Thanks so much for the invitation. The best thing that has happened to me this morning is that my son woke up rosy cheeked after an emergency room visit last night that revealed nothing seriously wrong. The funniest thing has to be watching your wonderful pictures and seeing you in the red lips. You are AWESOME! Look forward to more laughs together in the future.
Yes, I've got a wonderful name for my garden...Golden Wishes Garden - this comes from a concept I've developed in my mind that a "golden wish" signifies a desire for quality-of-life aspects...so my garden fulfills many "golden wishes" such as wanting my family to enjoy eating healthy foods, to be closer to nature, to feel connected to the earth, to eat seasonally and locally, to be self-supporting, to spend time together on shared tasks, to nurture growth, to be frugal, to be good land stewards, to feel good about yourself, etc :)
I've wanted to build a blog and/or eCommerce website based on the topic of Golden Wishes and may do that soon. The sites might be motivational or educational/resources or products to improve quality of life....dunno yet.
Anaheim peppers are similar to green bell peppers only a bit more spicy and a different shape. They aren't "hot" pepppers but they do have a strong flavor. In stores they are sold green but if you grow them yourself you can leave them on the plant until they turn red, where they gain a bit of sweetness - not so sweet as a red bell but still very yummy - and they dry well for later use.
Yes, basil prefers full sun as does most herbs and veggies...but it will provide good growth on partial sun too. Plant where you can and work with whatever you reap, I'd say.
Mini-basil would be great for growing in pots and other tight confines but I wouldn't use it in my garden much as it would not provide as much output per square inch of soil space as larger plants would. I grow Thai basil (pretty purple color) and Italian basil types and usually experiment with some off-beat varieties like cinnamon basil which I just use fresh.
Well, I gotta run...it's been good getting to know you Ann :)
Hi Ann! We are over in East Stroudsburg, PA, in the Poconos. We moved here 1 1/2 years ago. I am originally from the other end of PA (Erie), so this is a lot different than what I am used to. It's proving quite the challenge!! I think you had asked what was the best thing to happen to me today, and I would have to say it would be a seemingly simple thing. Spending the day with each of my children, watching them each learn something new and being happy in their own skin. That is probably the best thing to happen to me most days, but its true....What about you? :) Tracy
Hey, Ann how are you today? Wonderful I am sure. Soon as I find the recipe for the homemade laundry soap I will send it to you........Now, you must tell me what upside down tomatoes are...
Hi Ann Thanks for the brainstorming on the DJ business. I have been a DJ/Karaoke host for over 10 years. We have trained a lot of people as they come and go. It takes a certain personality type to be a DJ and deal with people as this job requires a lot of customer service.
There are other DJs out there who put out videos on how to DJ and interact with others.
We hear all the time that we have done such a great job and that their last DJ sucked. I always ask why did they suck? Figure I can learn from their mistakes. We like to keep the customer happy and play the songs requested. We never have a "play" list that we strictly adhere to because every party is a bit different.
Any way, maybe we could make a manual or a blog on how to run a karaoke business or just plain host karaoke. I don't know. Thanks for getting the wheels turning.
At one time we had looked into opening a DJ supply store as that seemed logical but the cost was like $250,000. We were a little short. *smile*
There are a lot of DJ/Karaoke discs sites on the internet so I would have to research whether that would be a good move to go that way.
Thanks Ann. Your brainstorming was the best thing that happened to me today!
